Just a quick question... is it REALLY worth it to have the invites hand-cancelled?
TIA!

My dad works at a post office and I went there to hand cancel my invites. When I spoke to the clerks there they said that it was a waste of time and they said that they still go through machines so I didn't bother doing it. But if it makes you feel more comfortable doing it, then go ahead since it can't hurt.
yep.... that's what they did... and the logic behind that is.......

it doesn't cost you a dime to hand cancel it
basically They gave me a stamp and i just stamped it near the right hand corner of the envelope where the stamp was and I just basically did it all by myself. they didnt have to run it through the machine or anything. it was great

They go through different machines even if you hand cancel.

nope, not at my postoffice. the hand cancelled envelopes would still receive a machine stamp (on top of the hand stamp).
I even asked them 'why bother hand cancelling if they still go through the same machine?' and the clerk said that there wasn't any advantage, and said only at post offices with extra staff would they 'bother' to hand-sort the envelopes (aparently what that machine does after cancelling) into different destination bins. he then said 'good luck finding one of those post offices!'

I hand cancelled mine. I did not have to do it myself they just sent it to another facility to have it done there and I got 1 return to sender and it did not look like it was put through any machine. I know someone on this site didn't hand cancel and lots of her invites were ruined and ripped up when they got to people. I'm glad I asked for mine to be hand cancelled.

If they're particularly fragile, then I would have them hand-cancelled. They still show up w/marks on them anyway, which I was hoping to avoid.

You can always mail yourself one first to see how they come out without being handcancelled

LOL.. My dad used to work for USPS.. he was a supervisor.. I remember going into the post office and seeing how the mail gets treated in the back area of the PO.. . they are still going to get curved or bent by just going into those slots that represent your houses at the local post offices.. I don't know there really is no way around it .. just make sure they are sealed well..

i think so.... it looks nicer than a bar code across the top of your envelope.

I don't think I'll bother to hand cancel mine. I feel that most people just tear the invitation open in 2 seconds anyway. And the lines at the PO by my house at the times I'm able to go, are usually insanely long, and so I don't really want to wait on line for 45 mins just so I can hand cancel my invitations.

The majority of our invites got shredded from the machines. We never hand cancelled them, but from what I've read, guess it doesn't really matter if I did or didn't........
