FH and I have been going back and forth about an engagement party. So a couple of weeks ago someone mentioned how fun their engagement party was and they had such a good time blah blah....Of course the wheels started turning... The wedding is in October and I still wanted a bridal shower. Do you guys think it is 2 late for an engagement party?
I was thinking of having it late march??

I am going to say no, but I dont really know. I had a surprise proposal/engagement party..so I had nothing to do with it.. I dont really know when engagement parties are normally suppose to take place. HTH

I'm not sure... Usually E-parties are a few months after you get engaged. We got Engaged last May and had the E-Party in August. Our wedding is this May. I think it'll be okay. There's always time to celebrate... you may just want to do family and the wedding party. Not too big since a few months later will be your Shower.

I think you should do what ever makes you and your FH comfortable. But if it was me at this point in the game I wouldn’t even bother, since you are getting married in just 8 months. Depending upon what sort of an engagement party you want to throw, the planning can be just as stressful and consuming as planning the actual wedding. And I speak from experience because FH and I damn near went crazy planning ours

Yeah I think its too late. For one thing, I think guests will feel overwhelmed with gift buying. You are looking at 3 gifts in like 7 months, thats kind of asking for alot.

Sorry, I think it's kind of late. While gifts are by no means required for engagement parties, some people might want to buy you something anyway. If you do the engagement party in March, then you'll have your shower some time between July and August and then the wedding - I don't know, I think it's a lot so close together.
But go with your gut!

I think it is too late to have an engagement party now. It is too close to the wedding and people might think you just want to get gifts from them. My friend had her engagement party last march and then her bridal shower 5 months later (she is getting married Saturday) and not a lot of people showed up to her shower or brought gifts, so I would just hope for lots of good gifts from your bridal shower. JMO

OK I am going to play devils advocate and say yes only b/c I have been told that they should be at least a year between the engagement party and wedding for people to recoup $$? JMO

I am having a very short engagement (7 months) and FMIL wanted to throw an engagement party, but I felt like it was too much in a short span of time...think about it..engagement party, shower, bachelor/bachelorette parties, and then the actual wedding and reception. It's not just a strain on the guests, but on you too!

I had a similar situation. We ended up not having one because we were indecisive for too long. I think maybe you guys can have something very intimate with close friends and family... I'm sure that wouldn't be weird at all. However, I think that if you had a bigger party, it might be a little bit too much being that you're going to have a shower sometime this summer as well....

While I do agree its too late, why not have a party at a family members house, like a barbeque of sorts and request NO GIFTs, youll get the best of both worlds, no one will feel like you are wanting gifts AND you will still get to have a party.

yes I think it is too late.... you have about 8 months left and you will turn around and have a shower- too late IMO.
Maybe just have a VERY small dinner at home with CLOSE family and friends- no bells and whistles.
