Is it a bad idea to come to my office on a weekend to do wedding stuff?

Is it a bad idea to come to my office on a weekend to do wedding stuff?

I'm tempted to do this but I don't know if I'll get in trouble. I have Saturday free and know I'll get a lot done (programs, direction cards, etc), but I'm still debating. What do you guys think?

Hey why not? I wouldn't clock in or anything... but if your office is open and you will have the privacy, I would.

I have come to work on Saturdays more times than I can count to do work and I do not even get overtime, plus I stay past 5 oclock to get work done, so I do not see anything wrong with this.

It depends on your company, mine would freak out but at my last job they wouldnt care at all.

I would ask your boss if they would mind.

I did it, I used my own paper and stuff too, plus bought extra toner so nothing could be said. My boss came in and saw me, came over and talked with me...I told her what I was doing and she asked if I wanted any help.

I did unfortunately to help my friend with her wedding stuff not for me. They changed the security procedures in the building and the witch in HR can hawk what everyone does now. When you go downstairs, for how long, when you go to the bathroom, how long you were there. She has mentioned to my VP on a few people's habits!!! YES I am in Kindergarten!!!
I stay at work late from time to time so I take advantage then.

i think it all depends on your company. i don't think mine would care but if you never work weekends, it might look weird to them.

If that's where you can get peace, quiet and free supplies...then I would go for it.

I would mind if one of my employees was using my electricity, computer, printer, paper, ink, toner etc. without my knowledge. If someone asked I would most likely say yes and not have a problem with it.

At my job they have a really fast, and fancy laser printer...I used it after work to print up my e-party invites. I'd ask and see what happens...no one probably cares a bit.

I did a lot of things for the wedding on the computer and printer at work. I asked ahead of time, and used my own paper. They did not mind at all, but I would ask first just in case. Good Luck!

It depends on your workplace - only you know the answer to that. My old job wouldn't care what I did, but this new job keeps an inventory on each square of toilet paper used to wipe an azz, so I wouldn't do try here. Good luck!

Well, in my opinion, if you have to ask then you probably shouldn't. And, you definetely shouldn't be using work supplies or your work computer to do anything personal...if you get caught it's considered stealing from the company.

I'm not saying this to be a jerk, or even b/c I think it should be this way, but if you run into a supervisor who's there doing actual work on the weekends-you might not look very good to them.

In fact, FH came home the other day and mentioned an intern he has was photocopying pages out of her textbook once she was done with her hours on the company copier. He wasn't mad, but he couldn't believe somebody would be so 'stupid' as he put it, to do that. To put it mildly, it didn't make a good impression.

I've worked places where I would feel comfortable doing it. But, I was a senior person, been there for a while, and worked a lot of unpaid overtime-so no one would have complained- but it also wouldn't have been a question in my mind beforehand or I wouldn't do it...

JMO.

I do wedding stuff at work, during the week. So you are better than I am

I have thought about doing this as well. So far I haven't, because there is nothing I could do here that I couldn't do at home.

As long as you dont think people will care, I would do it. I know my bosses wouldn't care. But they are very cool

Maybe my office is just really great that way, but they would NEVER have a problem with it....

I can't imagine getting in trouble for using the copier for personal stuff.

In my office we are all professionals who work very hard (as I am sure all us girls do) and so if you need to take some time (outside of your 9-5) to get some persoanl stuff done, I wouldn't think twice....

But that's just my office!

Here's my situation. The printer I mainly use is my own color ink jet. I would buy all the other supplies, including toner, just to be able to use the color printer. I don't think most people would have a problem, but you never know. It's the only access I have to a printer, outside of going to Kinkos and dropping big $, and I wouldn't be using office supplies. I guess I'll have to check with my boss. I'll let you know how it goes.
