my florist is not close to my wedding site?? My wedding is in Smithtown, and I'm trying to narrow down my decision of which florist I use. I'm wondering I should choose someone in that area, or is it OK to go w/ someone in Huntington, or even Mineola?? I'm worried about if the flowers will not be as fresh, what if they don't get there on time, don't know the area, etc.

Is it a big deal if
My wedding is in St. James, and my florist is in Huntington. So far, it doesnt seem to be posing a problem. Check and see if the florist you like has done weddings at your hall before, ask to see pictures. Maybe it will give you a better idea of what to do.

I would say, first go with your gut feeling about the florist, next, ask them if they charge a delivery fee, and also see if their truck is refrigerated and if they inspect the flowers upon arrival (and will repace them with fresh ones- which they bring with them- if they are wilted). The florist we are booking does all this, and the person who met with us told us that he goes to each set up and inspects each centerpiece to make sure it is perfect!
But, I do believe that gut feeling is the best way to judge.
Good luck!

Our situation...
Our reception was at John Anthony`s on the Water in Babylon, and we used Flowers by Brian in Mineola .. definitely not a hop, skip and jump from door to door .. probably more like a half-hour or so. Oh, and if I recall correctly, they were using a commercial van, which makes travel a little more difficult. On top of that, it rained pretty good on the day of our wedding. BUT, despite all this, Flowers by Brian arrived early to my house (first stop).. and not just be five minutes, either. When I expressed concern over the church possibly being locked, the driver said not to worry, that he`d wait if he had to.
I really don`t think having a florist that isn`t exactly close would be a problem, as long as you`re dealing with a reputable company. If you have a good company, dealing with fresh flowers, your arrangements should absolutely last the entire day no matter what. Our bouquets and the boutineers all held up exceptionally well the entire day, and obviously they weren`t in water. When we got home from the reception, my husband`s boutineer went into the fridge, and still looked like new a few days after the wedding!
You should consider how inconvenient the trip might be for you depending on how often you might need to go in during the final arrangement process.

we are going with pedestals, and we met with Danny. I don't know if you have tried them yet, but they are worth a look at. He was the best by far that we looked at.
Keep me posted!

Why don't you ask if they have refrigerated trucks?

PS- forgot to mention they are in Mineola, where is +
your reception? I am getting married at the Westbury Manor, which is Scotto Bros. run. I know the Wathermil in Smithtown is also Scotto Bros. they do recommend Pedestals and since they remommend them, their delivery is free. Let me know what you think if you check them out.
Also, Pedestals will make up a sample of your centerpiece before you book, the other florists did not offer this (you had to book them first, send in a deposit, and they would make your centerpiece 10 weeks before your wedding). My thought is, what happens if you hate it? Do you have to spend more $ just to get your look just right?

Simply elegant makes a free centerpiece also, and I am not sure but I think Spitz and peck does as well

I'm at the Watermill, but they don't have Pedestals on their list. Yes, I agree a sample is so important to me. And, no delivery charge is great!! Most likely I will go to pedestals this week.

I booked Burtons in Huntington
They were very nice to deal with, had a lot of great posts on here, and prices were great.
My reception is in Hauppauge at the Hamlet. Flowers get to the florist fresh, but most of them are grown out of town so getting to your reception will not be a problem at all.
You should never put your flowers in the home refrigator either. It wilts them and turns them brown.
On www.weddingchannel.com, local, NY thread Danny from Pedestals has gotten a lot of negative comments and even posted that he would sue if they did not stop. He even posted on the board saying that he has checked with a lawyer about it. I totally lost ALL respect for him at that point. Just thought you should know that.

I visited Simply Elegant and they did not offer a free centerpiece to me! I would have loved to see one! Maybe it was a bad night for them!

We booked with Danny at Pedestals. I don't know if you would have to spend more money on extra samples but as Pedestals showed us a sample for free before we booked and also said we can see another sample before the wedding, i hardly think that would be fair. Some places won't offer to do a sample for you and will try to get out of it by saying 'oh, but your flowers are not in season.. how can i possibly show you what it would look like?' If they say this just tell them you really want to see the sample so that you know the size of the centerpiece and how full it would be (one florist's version of a 'full' centerpiece is very different from another's). Tell them it does not have to be an exact vision of your wedding day piece. It will also help you see their creativity and how well they read and interpret your wishes. Good luck!

I booked Burtons in Huntington - Michele31
Thanks. I knew all about the threads though as Danny told me himself before i booked with him and explained everything. I read the whole thing. I don't think a lot of the brides comments are from actual brides, they just seem a little to hateful. Did you read some of the mean stuff they said? That is so not right! Anyway, i feel really confident about our decision, we got a great price and I really like him. I think he has a genuine enthusiasm and a real love for flowers that you just can't fake. FYI - I have heard so many wonderful things about Burtons! Good Luck!

Tammyjill: I'm at the Westbury Manor! They are Scotto Bros!
I wonder if I call them back and tell them that I was not offered a complimentary sample and would like one (since I am using a Scotto Brother's place) they would do it for me!

I really do not have an opinion abouut Danny one way or the other, since I have never met him. I just did not like the 'legal' stuff that he posted. I think as long as you are happy with your decision, that is the most important thing. I just wanted to let you know. I really love that we cann all share info this way.
Happy Planning!!!!

you should try... they did one for me
did they know you were westbury manor??
cant hurt to try, I thought they do it all the time, tell them you cant sign without seeing what they can do but that they are in the running as a possiblity of who you use
