IS IT BAD TO GO DRESS HUNTING WITHOUT MOM FOR THE FIRST TIME..WE HAVE WEIRD SHEDULES AND I NEED TO START LOOKING..PLUS WHAT IF I GO AND I FIND SOMETHING LIKE AT A SAMPLE ALE AND HAVE TO BUY IT THEN..IT WOULD BREAK MY MOMS HEART...WHAT DID YOU GUYS DO?..MY MOH IS HOUNDING ME TO GO LOOK AT DRESSES!!!

this is coming from someone who doesn't have the benefit of having my mom around to go dress shopping with-I say wait. It's special and it truly is a mother daughter thing.
If you do decide to go looking I would show her the dress before ordering. Definitely don't order it w/o her!

My MOH was doing the same thing and I simply told her that my first time looking at dresses is special for me, and I want my mother with me...although she & I had to make the date several weeks in advance b/c our schedules are so different. I say definitely wait until you can go together.

I went without my mom.. and bought my dress. Actually my MOH dragged me to a trunk show, and I had no intentions of ordering anything, until I saw 'the one' My advice?? Go shopping, pick out a few dresses, but dont buy it until she comes with you and sees it. This is something you should def do with your mom.. I regret it, but I brought her back to see my dress, I tried it on and she loved it!

I have to say, it depends on your relationship with your mom. I'm not close to my mom and she lives out of state. So I went with my FMIL and MOH and had a wonderful time. My FMIL and I are close. My mom also wasn't insulted that I didn't go with her because she knew it was hard since she was far away. So it all depends on how you and your mom are. If you are close, then I would wait. It is so nice having people close to you go with you the first time because then it makes for a really fun experience.

The first time I went without my mom, actually the first two times. The first time I went by myself and the second time I went with one of my BM's. The third time I went back with my mom and MOH and I ordered my dress.

I didnt go with my mom. WE butt heads a lot and I know it would just frustrate me and ruin my day so I went with my 3 friends and picked out the dress, I am taking her back to show her the one I picked. (and i am sure she will make her 'comments')

I went without my mom the first few times... when i had it narrowed down to a few dresses I went with her and my step dad and we picked 'the one' together...
my mom lives out of state and I just couldnt wait for her to fly in, so we went when she came up for the engagement party...

There is nothing wrong with going to look to start getting ideas but you should bring her along on your second or third trip so that you don't hurt her feelings.

YES, Make sure you go with mom..It is a very special day for both..My MOH told me that from the begining to make sure I went with my mom not just my MOH....

You should def include your mom as much as you can, it's a special day for her too! But if you have conflicting schedules then it's ok to go with just your MOH for the 1st time to get ideas. Then when you filter out what you don't want you can bring your mom back and help you make your final decision. You won't have to order the dress that first day, any place that says that isn't offering good customer service. Your mom deserves to be there!! She's been waiting for this as long as you have!

We pre-screened all of the vendors and brought mom back to the ones we considered and eventually booked.
When it came to the dress, I knew that nothing would give mom greater pleasure than to be there. I would not have denied her that opportunity. It also helped when she had to leave the deposit!

Agree! My mom lives in Florida and never comes here cause she hates NY. It ***** and I wanted her there for all the wedding planning things but reality is she is not close by and we are not close so I am just rolling along with it without help. It is easier for me to do everything on my own since I am so used to doing those mother/daughter things alone anyway. Good Luck!! My advice is the same wait for your mom it is special and I would want mine around.

Personally, I would never have dared to go without my mom. Not that she would have said anything, but it's one of those rare mother-daughter moments (that become so much 'rarer' as we get older and start our lives with FH). In hindsight, I'm glad I waited for us both to be available - it's a great memory.

if you can, go with mom. my mom took off from work to be able to go. she was VERY excited about it--and my mother and i aren't even very close!

It's not bad...you have to do what you want. I went with my mom and we had a great time. She loved seeing me in the different dresses. I thought she would get annoyed with me and i with her but she was great, so you might be surprised if you decide to go with her.

I went with my mom and she was there when I bought it. I have heard of stories where some places treat you differently if you don't bring your mom...can you imagine the NERVE. Like a bridal salon knows anyones person business to pass judgement on you.
