I know the first question is can you afford it? Well here is our situation: My FH and I are planning not to exceed $50k for the entire wedding. I plugged this figure into the knot budget calculator and according to that, I am 'allowed' to spend up to $3k for the wedding gown and $1200 for the invitations, but only $500 for my wedding ring! I fell in lust with an amazing ring from a European maker but the price tag is $7500! To me, I feel like the wedding is just one day and the marriage is forever and one thing that I will be looking at every day to remind me of that will be my wedding ring, so I feel like I should divert money away from 'silly things' which I feel are: 1) the dress which I will only wear once in my life ( I like a dress that is $940); 2) the flowers, which will be dead and gone inside of a week and 3) invitations which everyone will throw out as soon as the wedding is over ( I plan on paying $500-$700). I understand that others feel differently and maybe can even afford a little bit more than I. I mean, if you feel that it is worth it to spend $5k on a dress you will wear once and you can afford it and it makes you happy then by all means do so, same goes for flowers and invitations. All the same, even though I can clearly justify this excessive expenditure to myself as you can see above, is it fair to expect or to even ask my FH to go along with this request? It is just plain silly and over the top? How much are you girls spending on your wedding rings? What do you feel should be a wedding 'splurge' and what should be spent as little as possible on? I would love to compare to see if I'm crazy or normal. Thanks!

I personally think that is a lot to spend on a ring, but if you are able to make it work go for it. I didn't settle and got the ring I wanted so I think you should do the same!

No sorry, I do not have a picture. I saw it at Van Chion of Huntington which is where my enagement ring is from. Take a look at my album if you want to see it . It is a gorgeous 3 carat eternity style princess cut ring. I am a flashy chick so I won't deny that this is an extravagent purchase. It is bling bling! Invisible settings and all. I actually wasn't looking for a wedding band. We were there because my engagement ring was a lil too big so I was getting stabilizers put in. While we were waiting, Tony Chion showed this ring to me. He even winced at the price but explained to me that platinum is very high in cost right now and that it is from a European craftsman. It was one of the most unique and extraordinary pieces of jewelry I have ever seen, truly. Even the inside was carved. I do understand that it is alot though. I have alot of time anyway so I'll see how much we need to shell out for other stuff and see what's left over for the ring...it will happen if it's meant to be!
ok so sounds like its not a ring you can find just anywhere...definitely dont give up, wait until you get further into the planning and see where you are...would you be willing to split the cost with your FH? or contribute some of it just in case he doesn't like the price lol.

Of course if you have the money I say go for it! I completley agree if your willing to spend that much on a dress that you only wear once why not on your ring. The ring is going to last a lifetime so I think if your cutting your costs in other areas it could be reasonable. I personally do not have that money but get what you love!

His money is our money and likewise, I mean I have a decent job, I'm an attorney and he's a banker. Basically, I'm the CEO of the relationship and he's the CFO, meaning he handles our money. So whatever we decide to spend it comes out of the community pot.

If you can afford it, then go for it. It's no one else's place to judge you, and you shouldn't feel the need to justify yourself. We all have certain items that we splurge on - whether it's cars, bags, electronics or jewelry, you have the right to do what you please. I'm sure you and your fh work hard, so if that's the ring you love then you go for it.
But as other posters have mentioned, I would try pricing it out elsewhere - or even consider going the custom route. They are absolutely gorgeous rings, but since they are Tacori, you're paying extra for the Tacori name.

ITA.
But keep in mind that the calculators you use on these kind of websites aren't always accurate, so make sure you're leaving a BIG cushion in case of overspending.
We started off thinking of a certain budget and ended up having to double it when all was said and done.
Take care of the big vendors and reception hall first before purchasing, and just leave room in case of budget changes.

Invitations get thrown out, the dress is worn for one day.... but the ring you will have forever. That's the way I see it.
If that's not enough.. at least the ring will hold value and can appreciate in value.

Very pretty....My set is fromTacori and my wedding band is very similar to yours...... Tacori is a little more costly because each piece is custom crafted to order specifically for the client. My band was not $7500....... But the jeweler is right in that the cost of platinum is very high. We bought our rings last summer and I know platinum has jumped since then!! You should try Ecolin Jewelers in Port Jeff they carry Tacori and are wonderful!

Re: Is it crazy to spend $7500 on my wedding band?
I agree that if you can afford and you want it, then go for it. Mine was not nearly that amount but I spent a good deal on it anyways. I felt the exact same way as you on invites but I have to say they ended up being a huge splurge for me. I found something I really liked and nothing else made me happy so I ended up getting them. Even though I know most will throw away, I felt strongly about getting them. That was (one of) my splurges. I say go for it. or if you still want to consider options, how about taking the design to a jeweler to have it replicated for cheaper amount.

Re: Is it crazy to spend $7500 on my wedding band?
I would, but I would trim in other places to make up for it....I've been doing a lot of trimming & saving here & there. (SALES & COUPONS)..even my invites I'm DIY (should have been $83 for 3 boxes ....I paid $38) Some places I penny pinched...some places...that's totally not the case.

My answer to threads like this are always the same:
If you could afford it, go for it, no one is judging you.
