Is it expected for....

the bridesmaids to pay for their own hair and makeup? I know it is customary for them to buy the dress, but am I responsible for their hair and makeup--or are they? I don't know the etiquette for this type of stuff!!

no. you are not responsible to pay for them, but some brides do (less than more I'd say). I am considering paying for either hair or makeup for my girls.

I don't think it's EXPECTED of you, unless you have given them specifics about makeup and their hair, AND if you can afford it and or want to do it.... I don't think its a standard thing though.

Ive been in a couple weddings and always did or paid for my own hair to get done... JMO :)

If you do go that route, would that be considered your 'gift' to them--or would you get them jewlery also? AHHH I just don't know what to do...My bridesmaids are all from upstate, ny --- and everytime they come here they can't get over how expensive everything is, and i just dont want them to back out of anything because of $$$ reasons. They aren't over the top type of people....and I completely am -- I respect their budgets, but I just don't know how much is too much for me to go, ya know.

I think the bride pays for that..but they pay for the dresses

For every wedding I have been in, I have paid for my own dress, hair and makeup. You can give one of these as your gift to your bm also.

according to ediquitte..it is only customary for you to pay for flowers..

alot of brides pay for hair and or makeup for a BM gift..

If I can afford it, im going to have someone from my old HS (where mom works) cosmetology come and do their hair if they want for cheap $, if not they have to pay for it. When it comes to that, ill be handing out IOUS!

The only think you are responsible for is the bok. Hair, makeup, dress, jewelry etc. is on them.

I am giving them the jewelry to wear (as part of their gift) and flowers .. that is it. I am too broke to afford makeup and hair ..I may have a friend who is a pro at that stuff do it for cheap or free.

I went to a friends wedding where someone kept talking about how it was expected for the bride to pay for everything..and she had 12 BMs!! And she was upset we all had to do our own hair!

Im glad everyone here is in agreement!
