or does getting a cash wedding or shower gift from your parents seem a bit impersonal??
Don't know why... it just annoys me. Like they couldn't put any thought into the gift. Am i just being silly?
Its just in my experience, whenever i get a cash gift, it goes to bills.

My parents and FILs are giving us a cash gift for the wedding because we are putting towards the paying the wedding at the end.

I don't mean to complain ... i appreciate anything anyone wants to give me... But i just always put so much thought into gifts for people, that when i get a gift of cash, i just feel no thought was put into it.
Of course, cash is good!!! But ya know what i'm saying???

let's face it not everybody has the same tastes so why get something that someone doesn't like over letting them pick out something that they do.

I agree that to me cash isnt a very 'personal' gift. However at a wedding, its really what hte majority of people give, parents included. For my shower I didnt get any money just gifts or gift certificates. But I know my parents will give a cash gift for the wedding and honestly I appreciate it because after the wedding thats what we'll need most!!!

Not for me.. Money is what we need, for the most part, to help us get started. I'm relieved that our families will be helping us out financially. It will help us with purchasing a home.

thats true... and i'm NOT kidding... They aren't good gift givers. I guess its just bothering me because they promised us this money for before the wedding, and are now saying its our gift for after the wedding.
and my stepmom gave me a check for my shower.... you couldn't BUY me at least a LITTLE somehting?? They're just lazy, thats all. (and ive been DYING for our bedding from Pottery Barn, or ONE piece of luggage!!! )

FIL's are giving us a cash gift. Not sure what my mom or dad will do.
After tallying up the bill for the wedding I will gladly accept cash from anyone who wants to give it.

Take the cash...that way you can put it toward anything you want. Think of the trouble people have when parents offer to pay for particular things and then the parents think they have a say in what you're doing cause they're paying or you feel obligated to do something you know they want. This way it's all up to you! That doesn't mean they won't give you a little something else that's personal.

It is nice if people can put the effort in, but at the same time they may be alittle unsure as to what to get you or what others are getting you, so money is better than a second toaster.
