FMIL said that her sister(FH's aunt- she is under 40) has some stuff from her wdding that she wouldn't mind me reusing- but in my mind I am like I want ALL new stuff- EVEN though after theweddign it will probably not be used again.
First it was her dress- now it's her ring pillow, tiara, SHOES..........
Come on now... I can honestly say her style is NOT my style..... sorry.

I would politely just say thank you, but this is your special day and the exciting part is picking out all the little stuff and make it personal.
I am sure she will not be offended, but it was nice of her that the thought was there.

I think it would be cool to use something of hers if you were close, if it were a family heirloom, or if it were your style..I think thats nice....
However...if its soo not your style..out dated..or you just want your own or start your own tradition...I think thats perfectly fine and she should respect that..
And people appreciate honesty...so if she suggests something...maybe at least give her the time of day and have a look at it...and if its terrible just be like...I'm really flattered you would want me to use this...but it doesn't really go with my dress or theme..or whatever...But its a nice thought...

It is fine to use something as your something borrowed or something new, but I agree that I would like to have new stuff for my wedding

I have a friend who is also a BM that keeps trying to hand me down stuff from her wedding too including her DRESS!!!! I know she is just trying to be helpful, but there is no way that 'we don't have the same taste' isn't going to come off as rude and unappreciative IMO.

some stuff I honestly don't care if it's new. FSIL gave us baskets, 72 left ver favors (beautiful silver wedding bell picture frames), mikasa bowls for mints, ring pillow and all that. I was very happy to take them because it saves us money. A friend had a beautiful cathedral length veil and comb she didn't use for her wedding, brand new mikasa toasting flutes and a guest book pen that she sent me. I think it's sweet that they want to help me. I would not wear someone else shoes or dress though.
