Aren't the newly united families supposed to share a table the reception? Assuming there are no divorces or bad blood or anything like that. Or am I just looking for things to get angry about because family and soon-to-be family members are driving me crazy.
Well, at least seating charts had started out fun... I'm really getting to the point where a simple task cannot get done without severe aggravation from people. I am so sick of this crap. I try not to ask for these too often, but I really need hugs please.

I'm not sure what you mean, but I'm seating my family separately from FH's family. I've never heard of mixing up the family members at the wedding...

Re: Is it just me?
I thought the parents were all supposed to sit together . Having a separate table for FH's parents and a separate one for mine sounds weird to me. Most of the weddings I've been too people have been mixed up at. Is this rare? I thought that was the norm.

Re: Is it just me?
Both our families get along great, but we're having separate tables, because both sets of parents feel like they need to act as a host to their guests. So the closest family members of each family sit at the same table as the parents.

I've never been to a wedding where the families get mixed, but if that's what you're used to, go for it!

Re: Is it just me?
I had to google it because I needed to confirm that I'm not losing my mind. I've been very close to completely losing it and near tears for like a week now (not over the seating chart by the way - this is just the latest in a string of things) and it seems like each task gets worse than the one before it. With everything I want to do, someone close to me goes out of their way to make me feel like I'm completely nuts and it's really starting to get to me. I really don't think anything I'm doing is that unusual.
Here's what I found: Family Tables. Often, the parents of the bride and groom sit opposite each other at a large family table, with grandparents, the officiant, and other close friends. An alternative is to have the bride and groom's parents 'host' their own tables, consisting of their family members and close friends. In the case of divorced parents, each parent may also host his or her own table, smoothly diffusing any awkwardness or discomfort.
So, are most of you having these hosting tables then?

Re: Is it just me?
We are doing my parents with my siblings at one table and his parents and his sibling at a different table. This is how my family has always done it. But if you want to put the parents together that is your choice.

Re: Is it just me?
I am not doing the families together. Both his sisters have 5 each with husbands and kids so they will be at one table, his parents passed away before I even met him, so I will do my family at a separate table

I think it depends on how you want to do it. If both families are close they can be mixed. its your wedding you can do it your way !

Re: Is it just me?
Here are some . And no, you're not crazy, the newly united families can be seated together. I wanted to do this since both our fathers are deceased, however FH told me his cousin moved his seat at FSIL's wedding because he (cousin) didn't like where he was placed. It caused a mini-uproar at the time. Therefore, I have nixed the idea so his cousin can sit with FMIL.

Re: Is it just me?
Our families sat separately. My parents wanted to sit with their family members and friends, and I'm sure MIL and FIL wanted to sit with their guests. Have you asked your parents who they want at their table? I think it would be nice if you give them the choice of whom they would like to sit with.

I put my parents with my family (aunts and uncles) and his parents at a separate table with their family. That is the norm, I believe

Re: Is it just me?
I dont' think I've ever been to a wedding where the two sets of parents sat together. Since my parents are divorced we had 3 parent tables. DH's parents sat with their close friends and family , as did my father and my mother

Re: Is it just me?
FH & I will have our parents sit seperately with their own families. My parents will be at one table right next to us with my aunts and uncles, and his parents will be at another table right next to us on the other side of the dias with FH's aunt's and uncle's and grandmother.
