Is it just me or...

Is it just me or...

do people just don't get 'dressed up' for weddings anymore???

The wedding I went to last night (at Land's End) there were so many girls in dresses that I would wear as a beach cover up...half the people there (men included) didn't look like they were going to a wedding at all!?!? I mean I honestly don't care 'that much' what people wear BUT it's a formal affair and I saw a bunch of people wearing old navy flip flops (unless it's to change in for later when your feet hurt but this wasn't the case) or a cotton beach cover up for a dress??? I'd honestly like people to dress up for my wedding, I mean not as much as black tie but what I would consider 'normal' to a wedding?!? I don't want to write anything on the invitation because I don't want people to think they have to go out and rent tuxedos, etc but from the wedding last night I feel like writing something on the invitation would be necessary

I have seen people in shorts and beach clothes for a church ceremony and then go home and change for the reception.

Maybe black tie optional????

That really doesn't make sense that people would be more casual. Can't say i've seen that before.

You know, I 've felt the same way at the past couple of weddings that I have been to...it's to the point, where I feel OVERDRESSED!! My close friend is putting it on her invitation..'Black Tie'..or 'formal'....she's not sure yet.

Here is an idea.

On the invite, write 'Black Tie Optional'. It lets people know that you are having a formal affair and that appropriate attire is required, but tuxes aren't needed. My friend used that on her invite (she had the same fears you did) and it turned out to work well. There were, of course, a few people a bit underdressed, mostly the guys wore suits and the girls wore more formal dresses.

I am definitely using that approach on my wedding.

Good luck!

Even if the wedding invite said Casual Dress I wouldnt wear flip flops. They are beach wear, not casual wear.

Wow, thats really crazy.

That suckks, people just have no common sense anymore.

I'm not writing it on my invites, mostly b/c I don't care - as a bride, you probably won't notice what people are wearing..

Anyway, give me a freaking review already lady!!!

Yes, that I've seen that plenty of times before. If people came under dressed for my ceremony I seriously wouldn't care at all I'd just be happy that they came to the church just because I think when you get married at a church (especially when the church and reception times are so far apart) so many people just end up not coming for that and they just come for the reception...the church is the most important part

Yeah...I've noticed that too. The last few weddings I've been to were Sat nights and I felt over dressed. Strange. I can just imagine what people will wear to my day wedding!!

Me too, weddings are when you get to get all prettified (a real word lol?) and all fancy

Flip flops at a wedding? OMG yeah you can't do that.

I agree you have to dress up, not necessarily evening gown floor length either only if it is a black tie event. And guys need to wear suits. I am not a fan of every man in a tuxedo so that is why i dont want to write black tie.

I have seen some people wear things they shouldn't wear to weddings. I'd rather be overdressed than underdressed

yeah no matter what the occasion i can't go into a church dressed like that...I've gone to church with Fh for x-mas, easter and other events and seriously most of the people are dressed very down, some things are even like OMG are you serious wearing that right now. I will put on like a skirt with a button down, or dressy pants with a nice shirt and FH will wear a blazer.

I've noticed it too. I remember always getting dressed up for any celebration that was not in a back yard and still feel it proper to. But i've been feeling overdressed when i'm standing next to someone in a mini skirt and flip flops.... I dunno. I would prefer if ppl got dresses up for my reception just because I think it looks nice and its respectful. I guess its just how i was brought up. If you indicate formal or black tie maybe people will get a hint and dress a lil more on the fancier side. I don't think people will actually go out and rent a tux.

Oh and same goes for church! I can't beleive that people will actually wear a bathing suit and one of those hole-y thingys over it to church!
