do people just don't get 'dressed up' for weddings anymore???
The wedding I went to last night (at Land's End) there were so many girls in dresses that I would wear as a beach cover up...half the people there (men included) didn't look like they were going to a wedding at all!?!? I mean I honestly don't care 'that much' what people wear BUT it's a formal affair and I saw a bunch of people wearing old navy flip flops (unless it's to change in for later when your feet hurt but this wasn't the case) or a cotton beach cover up for a dress??? I'd honestly like people to dress up for my wedding, I mean not as much as black tie but what I would consider 'normal' to a wedding?!? I don't want to write anything on the invitation because I don't want people to think they have to go out and rent tuxedos, etc but from the wedding last night I feel like writing something on the invitation would be necessary

Wow, that's crazy. Like you said, I understand if people bring the flip flops for mid-party achy feet relief. At the church and for the beginning of the reception, anything less than dressy shoes/sandals is so wrong! What nerve of people. I am writing on my invites 'No children allowed' for sure, but never thought about specifying attire. Hmmmm..something to think about.

Some people I guess just don't know. But when I went to Italy for FH's cousin's wedding people would wear jeans. it's was like no big deal for them. Even his aunt wore jeans. But they all said that thats how they dress for stuff over there. and no one but us said anything. So i guess it's different everywhere.
But if you want people to know to dress formal...write black tie

I know in other states they don't get dressed up, but always in NY. (no drama disclaimer: not that there's anything wrong with out of state weddings and the dress code). The GF of a groomsman at my sisters wedding wore flip flops and people were a-buzz talking about it. It's definitely a no-no.
I agree with the 'formal' or 'black tie optional'- that shoud work- if not- people are just hopeless.

this is off topic but you should write 'Adults Only Reception' instead

I love how you included a disclaimer

I agree with that, I think it sounds less harsh.

Oh and same goes for church! I can't beleive that people will actually wear a bathing suit and one of those hole-y thingys over it to church!
as my old priest used to say 'at least they are AT church'
