Is it me or has children's programming changed from when we were kids?
I know this is probably silly but it seems like the public (as well as cable) programming for children is not what it used to be when we were little. Even Sesame Street doesn't seem the same. When I'm taking a shower in the morning, Amber can be a cranky butt until I turn something on for her to watch. I hate turning on Nick or Cartoon Land because the shows seem too 'adult' or Saturday cartoonish to me. There's no real learning programs on during my timeslot I guess. Even 13/21 have on Clifford or some other thing that really doesn't teach them values, etc. I forgot to change the channel this morning and I was horrified to discover her watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Thank goodness she found it amusing and was actually laughing when Buffy was beating up the monsters

No, I agree with you 100%. Other than Sesame Street there isn't much on public television that is even mildly 'educational.' Do you have Noggin? (It's channel 123 where my in-laws live in LI) They have some great shows for little ones...we got rid of it because we had to pay an arm and a leg to have it.

Emma watches Blues Clues, Little Bill, Sesame Street but thats it.The new shows they have on Nick Jr... Lazy Town, the Backyardigans (sp?) etc IMO are not for the younger kids to teach them anything.

Clifford does, but it seems too advanced for the young-young children to appreciate. Stuff like Wiggles and God what is that other show (where it looks like multi colored peni$e$ spinning around) are horrible. Did anyone ever watch this show??? They make this farting sound as they fly away?!? What are kids getting out of that??? Pleebahs or something like that??

I hate the kids programming thats on public TV as well as older kids... what happend to the real TGIF on 11???? Now all the shows are about older people instead of families... and the kiddie programs for our toddlers, our DH find more interesting!

Re: Is it me or has children's programming changed from when we were kids?
I agree! There is one show I love but its only on Sundays at 9:00am on PBS
Jakers! - The Adventures of Piggley Winks
Its teaches good values, right and wrong etc.. Its about an Irish Pig and his friends on the farm. very cute. I emailed them to put in some more slots!
Although it might be too 'old' for Aidan I still like it better than the other stuff I find, Fairly Odd Parents, some Grim Reaper dude
What happened to the Magic Garden? The Banana Splits and Davey and Goliath? These are probably too old for babies too but at least they were pleasant, these new Nick shows are just fast and noisey!
Just checked the PBS site and the Berenstain bears are on at 11am, thats a good one. Mr Rogers too....

Re: Is it me or has children's programming changed from when we were kids?
the tv programming now a days just plain out sucks for kids. mY 4 yr old likes Caliou and all the others cute ones. I end up rerunning my Barney tapes for him that my 6yr old had and he likes that. He hates sesame street and stuff and would rather watch what his brother does. My 6 yr old on a friday night ends up watching Family Guy which i am not happy with. There is no all kid channels which stinks. I live in Queens and would love to find one. Beleive me I do not let him watch it but it is on cartoon network . He also likes Believe it or not Seinfeld. we are talking a 6 yr old here that tells you something about childrens programming now adays. I like when electric company and all those shows were on the educational shows are not good enough and the cartoons are to stupid and destructive. I mean some have good values written in but how much of the same stuff can you have.

I was talking about this last night w/my husband. How sad she'll miss out on episodes of the Muppet Show and stuff like that when she gets older. Now she's gotta watch stuff where people are getting blown up or it's funny to hit people/stuff like that. It's really sad
