I don't think that they are necessary. Don't the waiters come to the table and tell you your options?? As far as programs I have to speak with the church and find out.

You don't need to do a lot of program. It can be one sheet of paper folded that you created and photocopied at work. Well that's my plan! lol I have templates on my home computer.

the RH gives menu cards - so that is enough for me....we might have a placecard christmas tree - so we wont need any extra decorations on that.....the only thing that i might do is programs for the ceremony - but thats just because i want to make them myself and i want to have one to scrapbook and save after the wedding......i think programs are cute - but not necessary
I didn't get to see them at JT. What do they look like?

Programs: we will be having them since we'll be having a Jewish ceremony and found a really nice model program with explanations of some of the religious traditions. We'll be having a bunch of non-Jewish guests, so I think it's nice to have. (plus it will ID the bridal party, etc)
Menus: Our hall provides menus for us. If we dont like the way we look we might consider making our own to match the programs. We'll see.
Overly decorated placecard table: Our hall provides a huge floral centerpiece for the placecard table (silk flowers, made by our florist in seasonal colors). I'm 99.999999% we're just going to use that. As for place cards, I'm honestly fine with just plain cards, maybe with a small decoration glued on. We might look into something a little more elaborate, but I don't really care -- they are just placecards!
nothing is 'necessary' - it's just whats impt to you!
Could you FM me the program info? I'm doing an interfaith ceremony and would love little explanations of the Jewish aspects for FH's family.

Absolutely none of it is necessary. I happen to love going to weddings and having a menu though...
But that's because I'm impatient and always hungry!
Do what you want and what you can afford

Re: is it neccesary?
none of it is necessary really
i was going to do a menu for each person but realized it was insane so i might just do a few per table
i wanted something extravagent for the card table but it might make it hard to find the cards (i wanted a tree, but with 170 ppl )
i want to do programs too but im sure as time gets closer- i will drop a bunch of prejects

Re: is it neccesary?
not at all. i don't think menus are needed at all. If they weren't free from my venue I would not be doing them.
and most of the place card tables i've seen have had some petals on it or nothing at all... so no, an overly decorated one is not needed either.
programs... aren't needed. We're doing them as a way to include a memorial page and so that people who arent familiar with our religious ceremony can follow along. If it were up to me, we wouldn't have those either, but Mom insists.

Im not doing programs. IMO I dont see the point of them. I will try to DIY my menus, they seem pretty easy. I would love to have a really nice decorated place card table

I would say its kind of nice when you have an interfaith couple to have a program and there you can explain the ceremony
and also the program so you know who everyone is in the wedding party
everything elso no

Nope. Not necessary at all. They're nice to have, but you don;t need them. Some people like to add those little extra for a personal touch and all that. Personally I've thrown out every wedding program I've ever had and looked at a menu like once to order, so those things just aren't for me.
I'm just using that they give me, mostly because I'm a little cheap, and a little lazy.

Nothing is every necessary, and nobody would even notice. I'm only doing the menus because my RH gives them and does them for me.

programs - i'm printing them myself, if i wasn't, NO, not worth it to me.
menus - not at all...if your RH provides them - GOOD ENOUGH...
placecards - NO NO NO NO NO...people look at them, get their table number & put them in their pocket not to look at them again....(just my opinion).
placecard table - totally up to you....i'd lean towards no...then it takes away from people finding their names - people are easily distracted ya know....

I am DYI-ing these but not for everyone, about 50. Programs, and menu's. Programs because I have people I want to thank and have a 'in rembrance of' area. Menu's because we have 6 dinner options.

Re: is it neccesary?
definitely not neccesary.
for me, stationery and 'paper stuff' are big deals... so we are DIY all of it. that way i have the 'extras' i want, w/o spending big bucks on it!

Menus-- yes Only because I went to a wedding with 300 guests and there was one waiter for every two tables (Majestic Gardens). He had to go to each person and run down the menu and because of the music people were asking him to repeat what he said and it took FOREVER.
If we had menus it would have been quick and painless.

Re: is it neccesary?
We decided not to do programs and the RH is supplying the menus for us so there's no need for us to do those or change them.

Re: is it neccesary?
I agree with others that nothing is necessary.. I personally really like menus and have seen them at all the weddings I have been to this yr. Esp if you are having a sit down dinner its easy for your guests to communicate iwth the wait staff. I iwllll have menus but my RH is providing. I am keep the RH seating cards. DO WHAT YOU WANT!!!
