IS IT NECESSARY ....???

I know that the bridal shower and bachelorette party is set up by the bridal party in a surprise. Is it necessary to have them? What are the purposes of them?

Of course they're not necessary.

The birdal shower is to 'Shower the bride with gifts' Often brides are just starting out, and people will birng gifts, generally housewares, and it's a fun luncheon and you play games.

The bachelorette party is often not a surprise and it's meant as a last night out with the girls. Sometimes it's a strip club, other times a trip to vegas, or sometimes justa dinner. I think it's a nice idea to get together with your girl friends! It's a good excuse to get together!

Nothing is 'necessary', but most people like to do these things, or have them done for them. The bridal shower traditionally to 'shower' you with gifts for your new life with FH. House stuff, linens, kitchen appliances, etc. The bachelorette party is a spinoff from the bachelor party, one last (?) night of fun with the girls.

You can certainly buck tradition if you don't want these things, but your BM's & familymay be disappointed.

Definitely NOT necessary -

I've told my bridal party that I dont want a shower - FMIL is upset with that - but tough - the shower is for teh bride - i'm the bride - i get to decide if I want one -

The whole bachelor/Bachelorette parties are not my thing - FH and I decided on going out to dinner separately with our friends and then meeting up at a club for drinks...

I think the shower and the bachelor parties are just traditions - you can choose if you want to do it or not -

How does the invitation list comes up then? Who decides who to invite?

My friend told me about setting up a bridal registry. Am I suppose to set up a bridal registry and tell my bridal party? I don't know how this works.
thanks !

Usually the BP and the family comes up with the guest list . Otherwise you can come up witha guest list and give it to someone in the family...

Setting up a bridal registry is good b/c it gives your guests an easy way to pick out gifst for you (this si esp important at the shower) and it decreases you having to return things you don't like. I dont know of any bride who did not register. Then you would tell your family and BP and they can spread the word to anyone who asks or notify people in the invitations

You are supposed to register with your FI. It is your bridal partys responsibility to let your guests know where you are registered. The invite list can come from your family and FI's family. They put together the list and decide who to invite. Technically, you're not supposed to be involved with this, since it is a 'suprise'.

Attica you are so lucky! When I told my family I didn't want a shower, you'd think I'd told them I wanted to shoot the pope!

Oh, no no no - dont get me wrong - i got a similar reaction - and will probably get an even stronger reaction when it comes closer to my wedding...but i am standing my ground - I told FH my wishes and its his job to make sure it works out - I am so against the 80 guests showers with my not knowing 75 of the guests....so so not what i want - if one of my BMs wants to invite a handful of my closests friends over for dessert and coffee - that is fine but i am not going to parade gifts and ooh and ahh all night at presents that I know I registered for. (i know this probably sounds bad - but everyone is entitled to their opinion right?)

So...if you see me posting in a few months crying because I'm having a shower - you'll now that it didnt work out quite like i planned - *lol*
