is it necessary to hand cancel?

It's getting close to the time where I have to mail out the invites .. I've seen a lot of posts about hand canceling. Is it necessary? My invite is not thick and there are no bows or anything inside to crush .. I'm a little lost with this hand canceling thing

help!

It is not necessary - but to prevent any possible damage to your invitations with their machines I would recommend it

I didn't and no one said anything about the invites - and believe me, with my family - they would!

its not necessary---it just helps to ensure the envelope arrives a litle nicer than if they process them all thru the machines.

when DH dropped off our invites, he just said 'hand cancel?' and the lady took them and no biggie, she did it for him. (i think most of the time they do) so it doesn't hurt to ask when u drop them off.

Well, being that I had the pleasure of seeing the hand canceled invites that came back to me and one I sent through the regular mail without hand canceling, I would highly recommend it.

The ones that were hand canceled: The envelopes were a little beat up, but the inner envelopes and the invitations were fine.

The one that wasn't hand canceled: The top of the invite was bent from being run through the machine and the invite looked crinkled.

I would ask them to hand cancel just to be safe.

There was no real damage from the second machine they supposed are run through at the receiving PO!

I agree.

You have time- the latest your invites need to be out is: August 14th.

I think you can go either way on this, doesn't matter. I didn't do it because the lines at the PO by my house are always insane and I didn't feel like waiting half hour on line just to hand cancel my invites. Otherwise I might have done it.

also, i hand stamped them myself-- the lady was NOT offering to do it for me and just handed over the stamp-- and, with close to 300 guests being invited it took me about 10-15 minutes to stamp them myself.

It is not necessary. I had the first round hand canceled. The ones my mom sent out a few days later were not and everyone got their invitation in good condition regardless.

Its not necessary, but considering how much $$ we spend on invitations, its safer to do it. If they do get ruined in the machines...you're screwed pretty much. I didnt take the chance. It takes 5 minutes to hand cancel them and that way you know they wont get ruined.
