I would say its a good idea. I went to a tasting at the JT and at CLM and I can say both had AMAZING food! Amazing!

FH and I did a food tasting the same day we booked. It was recommended to me that we do another tasting closer to our wedding date. Not that I think the food will change though.

It's definitely the better way to go. Some places won't really let you do a tasting unless you put down a deposit. Just get it in writing that your deposit is fully refundable if you aren't happy at the tasting.
But try to get the tasting before booking. It's always harder to get your money back after they have it. And these places really should not be able to get away with NOT doing tastings prior to booking.

Maybe we were naive, but we didnt do a tasteing until 5 months after we booked. the food happened to be excellent anyway, but I would suggest going for one prior anyway.

Same thing happened to me. I got a food tasting 2 months after I booked, and even then, it was just the cocktail food. My advice: Try and taste the entrees.

I refused to book anywhere without tasting the food. JMO.

we had a full tasting about a month after we booked but it was in the contract that our deposit was fully refundable if we weren't happy with the food, the food was awesome!!!

I didn't because I knew people who got married there & because I went to a New Year's party there, I wasn't worried....

i did a food tasting at two places before I finally decided on where I was booking. There was just no way I could pick a place without knowing whether or not their food was any good.
