Re: Is it OK not to have an engagment party.
We're not having any 'official' engagement party. If time permits (with everyone being so busy), what we might do is a low-key bbq in my parents backyard for the bridal party to meet.

I recently graduated from medical school and had a HUGE graduation party (totally sweet 16 style)...and then got engaged the month after the party (2010 has been a great year). My fiance and I don't wanna throw ANOTHER big party like that cause we feel really bad making people give us gifts again (we live together so the money i got from graduation pretty much went to house bills). Is it ok to not have another party? My parents were thinking to just have the immediate family and bridal party go out to dinner....no DJ, No favors...nothing like my graduation party. Any other ideas for super low key parties?

Of course its okay, many people may think its rude to throw such expensive ( in expectation of gift giving terms) parties back to back. But theres no harm in celebrating with close friends and family.
i didn't have an e-party. it's just not my thing and that's cool! we had champagne toasts with each of our families the days following the engagement.
We had a backyard BBQ just with family. We spent a bit because we hired someone to do the grilling but no DJ etc. We did very inexpensive cookie favors at a $1 a pop we couldnt resist!
I didn't have one, don't plan on it. It's not necessary.
