Is it possible to adjust your diet so that you'll pass the Glucose Tolerance Test?
I have a bad feeling I'll fail this test when it's my turn to take it....I've always have a sweet tooth and eat too much sugar and carbs. I've been trying to be good while PG but some days are better than others
Do you think it's something that can be affected by what we eat, or will the test show the same results just depending on how you digest/break down food?

In a word... No.

The latter.
I thought for sure I'd test +. I ate chocolate chip muffins for breakfast every day - among other things. It was -. Go figure.
Good luck!!

This is how bad I am but I'm almost relieved to hear that! I was afraid I'd have to cut back my sweets even more!
j/k - most days I am really good since I have a picture on my fridge of the cutie growing inside me

No, there is nothing that you can really do to change the outcome of the test. It doesn't measure how much sugar you eat, it measures how well your body breaks down and responds to the sugars. That is why they have you fast, to make sure that there isn't a contributing factor to how your body responds.
Did that make sense? If not sorry, I have to type quickly at work!

I kinda figured that was the case but wasn't sure if excess sugar consumption made it worse.
How long do you have to fast for? Just the morning of the test? That's gonna be rough!!

Are you taking the 1 hr test or the 3 hr test? I am taking the 1 hr on Tuesday and was told by the Dr. I do not have to fast. Fasting is for the 3 hr test.

Not sure yet - I was just reading through my paperwork and read about it recently.
I'll have to find out from my dr at my next appt.

I am acutally going next week for the 1 hour test. I have the Glucose Tolercance Instructions in front on me. This is what it says to do: You do not have to fast.
You will be given the Glucola in the office, wait 10 minutes to drink, do not gulp drink. Note the time you finish.
Do not eat anything sweet after midnight the night prior to testing.
Any meal you eat 1 hour prior to testing must NOT contain any sweet items, such as juices, sugary cereals, fruits, sodas or candy.
That's all I have~ as always every practice says somethng different
My dr. said I would only need to take the 3 hour test if they found something in the 1 hour test.

I was given the drink last appt to take home and put in the fridge to drink about 20 minutes before I left the house so I wouldn't have to wait around, I guess it depends how busy your office is. Its important they test you on time.
No written instructions... but the nurse did say I *could* watch my carbs and sugars for the day of the test.

I eat sweets every day so that my body will get lots of practice and get used to breaking down all these muffins and cookies. That way it'll be a BREEZE going through the GTT. I'm kidding.
I don't think it has anything to do with it. I just think that some people are predisposed while others aren't.
I have my test in 3 weeks so I'll let you know.

I take my test next Thursday. I was already given the small bottle of orange soda drink. My appointment is at 5:45 and I was told to start drininking it at 4:50 and finish it by 5 p.m. I do not have to fast, and the doc said just not to eat a pound of sugar that day, but my normal eating habits won't affect the outcome of the test.
