To not register before my engagement party. Me and FH live in NC but the eng party and wedding is in Long Island (where we both lived until 1 year ago). Anyways, we are not registering because we don't want to pay to ship all these gifts back to NC. So we are hoping everyone will just give us $$. I had one friend of the family call and I told him if he wants to get us something to get us a gift card. we have Target, Kohl's, BB&B here in Charlotte.

I hope I don't get too many gifts because I will just wind up returning them before I fly home and then re-purchase them in Charlotte. I hope that if people realize that I am not registered, they will give me a gift card instead of a gift
I hope, I hope

Re: Is it rude?
I was registered and I still got a ton of crap I didn't want
If you registered they could send the gifts to you in NC- and at least you would get what you want
I have a ton of 'enagament type' gifts- that I have no idea what store they are from

Thanks, I never even thought of that. It's hard too becasue me and FH have been living together for over a year so we have mostly everything we need. Of course some new stuff wouldn't hurt.

Yes, I thought of that, anyone who calls me to ask where I am registered, I am telling them to get me a gift card. Thanks

Re: Is it rude?
i actually looked up 'engagement party etiquette' and it actually is RUDE TO REGISTER for an egagement party - since a gift should not be expected.
so we all know thats crap - because everyone gives gifts at an EP - but by etiquette - you should not register because it is like implying that you expect gifts.
now don't kill me..........just being a messenger.....lol

Re: Is it rude?
You don't have to register at all. Don't think that everyone will give you money though. Many people had no idea if or where we were registered, so they bought us generic and some fun gifts. If you don't mind picture frames, vases, and crockpots, don't worry about it.
