WHy don't you want to be in their wedding?? IMO , if I were the bride, my feeling would be hurt because she is spending all her time and $$$ on you and is probably hoping for the same in return.

Yes I think it is rude. Why wouldn't you want to be in her bridal party? Is there more you're not saying?

I would expect that person would drop out of your wedding if you said that to her...
I'm assuming you have good reasons?

I agree, she'll be very hurt if she's been participating in yours and spending $$$ probably expecting the consideration, time and $$$ she has invested in your wedding will be reciprocated. There's a good chance she will bow out of being in your wedding if you refuse (no matter how politely) to be in hers.

yeah... i think i would be hurt if i were her.... shes spending a lot of money and time to be in yours, and if she wants you to return the favor, theres really no reason not to. why don't you want to be in hers? shes obviously close to you, if you are having her in your wedding....

I don't know if 'rude' is the right word. I mean - strictly speaking - you don't HAVE to be in her wedding.
On the other hand, it is hurtful.
You ask people to be in your wedding party because they mean something to you. They hold a spot that is dear to you. She must be important to you if you asked her to be a part of your day.
The only reason I could think of not wanting to be in her wedding party is if she is marrying someone that you are absolutely and adamently against her marrying and if you have a DAMN good reason. If that is the case, you should also not attend the wedding at all.
I always consider it the highest of honors to be asked to stand as a BM or MOH. I only refused once - and it was because I was against the marriage altogether. Her FI was known to beat the h*ll out of her. I was not a guest at her wedding.
