Is it rude to have JUST my dad walk me down the aisle?
I told my mom I wanted just my dad to walk me down the aisle and she freaked! My sister had both my parents walk her down, so that's why she's upset.
I just like the father-daughter idea, besides, the mom-dad-daughter down the aisle is a newer thing, ya know!? Father-daughter is tradition.
Uh, what to do?

I have only seen fathers walk down the aisle not mothers

That's a tough one; I am having my dad walk me down the aisle, as that's tradition. I've been to a few Jewish weddings and I know both parents walk down the bride.
Maybe you can have a nice chat with your mom and just explain to her how you feel; and that you aren't your sisters. Times change, people are different.
Good luck!

I will show her this post to show her that I'm not crazy! She thinks the norm now is to have mom, dad, and daughter...sorry, mom...

Traditionally the father of the bride has been the one to walk the bride down the aisle, but it's not uncommon for both parents to do so these days. If your mom wants to accompany you, why are you so against it? Is it really worth it to hurt your mom's feelings over 'tradition'?

I know in the jewish religion it is tradition to have both walk you down but in all others it is usually the father but a lot of girls have been doing both lately. I am only having my father walk me down because I know this is a day he has always dreamt of

Thats a tough one...only because i'm thinking of doing that.... but i'm leaning towards my dad only anyway.... You should explain it to your mommy.

It's not rude at all. Just tell your mom you're being traditional, not snubbing her. Do you have a brother or another sibling? They can always walk down the aisle together. My brother was in the wedding party but he walked my mom down the aisle.
You have the option when the priest asks who is giving you away to have your dad say 'her mother and I' so it's not like she's totally excluded or anything.

are you jewish? I've only heard of this being customary in the jewish religion. My mom would have been upset too if I told her I only wanted my dad to walk me down the aisle

Funny, I've had the opposite issue. My mom is Catholic and my dad is Jewish and my FH is 100% Jewish. We decided to have both our parents walk us down the aisle, following the Jewish tradition, and my mom is uncomfortable with this because she's so used to just the father walking the bride down the aisle. You'd think she'd be honored! Go figure.

i am having both my mom and dad walk me down the aisle...i have always pictured it that way
but i dont think you should feel obligated. if you want to just have ur father than just talk to your mom and explain that you want it to be traditional etc

I'm Jewish. I would have loved to have both my parents walk me down the aisle. My dad passed away before my wedding, just my mom walked me down. Both parents walking down is a Jewish tradition, but I have seen it done at non-Jewish weddings as well. If it really means a lot to your mom, I would say let her do it. But, you ultimately have to do what you want to do. Just take all things into consideration. Imagine it both ways. Imagine what the repercussions will be either way -- will your mom get over it? Will you be upset if you didn't have just your dad? Really weigh it out and talk it over with DH.

Re: Is it rude to have JUST my dad walk me down the aisle?
I'm having both of my parents walk me down but that's because my parents are divorced and I didn't see my father too much growing up. My mother was more of a dad to me and I really wanted her to walk me down. I do have a relationship with my dad but it's more of a friendship rather father and daughter and I didn't want to hurt his feelings. I'm happy they are both walking me down but I don't think it's rude at all to just have your dad. If my dad was in the picture more often or my parents stayed together, I would probably just have my dad walk me down. It's traditional. HTH.

Re: Is it rude to have JUST my dad walk me down the aisle?
I'm just having my father walk me down, so I don't think it's rude. It's a personal choice, and in non-Jewish families, you see it a lot with divorced parents. My older sister wanted that for her mother and my dad, but long story short that didn't quite happen, he met her at the front to take her to hand her off.
So that being said, my mother is pretty against the idea of her walking down the aisle with me. She feels it's a disrespect to my father, and wants no part of it.
Not to offend anyone who is doing this, it's just my mother's personal feelings on the matter, so that's why I am having my father walk me up solely. Besides, that's what I would want to. No disrespect to my mother at all, she knows she raised me, I know she raised me, and we don't feel the need to have to showcase that in a moment that should belong to my father.

I'm so glad someone brought this up! My sister thinks I should have both parents but I only really want my dad for a couple of reasons one of them being that if my grandpa was alive I would have had him with my dad escort me and I want to leave that spot open for him in spirit...

Re: Is it rude to have JUST my dad walk me down the aisle?
im an only child, which made me contemplate having both of them walk me down, but the second i proposed the idea, my mom flat out REFUSED because that is supposed to be my dad's last moments with me as the only man in my life....so she said HE LL NOOO!!!
and im kinda happy, cuz thats how i wanted it
i dont think its rude at all, if its how u imagined ur wedding forever, just explain that, maybe tell her u want your wedding to be different than your sisters
and if ur riding w/ur dad in a classic car to the church, have ur mom drive with u two so she's included in that part, that's what im doing (cuz she doesn't have any other children to drive to church with)
