Is it safe to travel to Mexico?

Hey Guys, my husband and i are planning to go to Playa del Carmen, Mexico in April and will be staying in a resort. We will also be going to the Mayan ruins. I have heard stories about how it is not safe to travel in Mexico. Am I just paranoid?

FH husband and I went to Mexico this past May (Cancun) and we had no problems whatsoever. If you're staying in the touristy and hotel zone areas there shouldn't be any issues, there are a lot of Police Officers in the area too which made me feel safer. To be on the safe side just stay at the resort and with your excursions. We generally never leave the resort anywhere we go unless its for an excursion, FH is a little paranoid lol.

Have you booked your shuttle yet? We used USA Transfers and they were fantastic!

we are going to Mexico for our honeymoon though a lot of friends at first were like omg no! my aunt & uncle & cousins go all the time and never have any problems. my grandma has gone countless amount of times too.

obviously just stay in tourist areas and don't go wandering the streets you'll be fine. what resort are you staying at? we are going to stay at grand velas in pdc in 2014

Yes, Mexico is safe to travel. I just came back from Riviera Maya and no problems at all. Mexico is a beautiful country, the people are really so nice and welcoming. All the excursions are safe.

We are booked for playa mujeres (30 north of cancun) my friend went there in October and I know another couple who went in December. No problems for either

I'll echo everyone else and agree that if you are staying in a touristy area you will be perfectly safe. I've only been to ports in Mexico on cruises and never once felt in danger. But just keep your witts about you and if you get to an area where you don't feel comfortable, get out of there and back to an area with a better vibe.

Yes its perfectly safe. I felt safer at the resort in Mexico than i would in a mall parking lot at night, honestly.

When people hear Mexico, they think the border.

You will be just fine. My FI and I went to Playa del Carmen in August and it was perfectly safe. Many problems that people hear about in Mexico are on the Pacific side (Puerta Vallarta, for example).

I'll offer another transportation option from the airport to the hotel: Olympus. They were great!

Ive been to 3 different parts of Mexico (Cancun, Alcapulco, & Cabo) and ive loved every trip and felt totally safe and the people are so nice and welcoming. Just dont do anything stupid like wandering off exploring s@!* on your own like in the movies lol Thats goes for anywhere though., not just Mexico...
