FH and I don't want a registry because we already live together and we don't need anything. Is it tacky to mention that there is no registry but monetary gifts are accepted?

Hummmm I wouldn't do that only for the fact that your guest might not feel like giving you 25 dollars but instead rather spend 25 dollars on a gift.. They might not like that idea of limiting them to JUST MONEY...

I think it is .... impolite. It sounds as though you are anticipating gifts. And even though you ARE... the idea that you are soliciting them can be taken the wrong way.

Re: Is it tacky?
you cant write that on the invitation
registries are for showers only not weddings
so people will probably get you money for the wedding anyway
either way you can't write anything about gifts on the wedding invite - but i wouldnt have a shower without a registry either. . .

Re: Is it tacky?
YES that is EXTREMELY tacky to write a request for monetary gifts.
here's a tip: register at bed, bath & beyond....and when ppl give you gifts off your registry you can take it back for a cash. that is better than writing 'Monetary Gifts'
if you write that...i GUARANTEE you will get either a)no money or b)lots of ugly gifts to spite you. that's what happened when a friend of mine went to a wedding like that. they couple asked for no gifts, just $$...and guests brought TONS of cheap presents...or stuffed $10 in a card

Re: Is it tacky?
Just my opinion - but I wouldn't write anything about monetary gifts being accepted. It does sound a bit ........ impolite, and can be construed as being tacky. I know of some people who didn't even go to a wedding because at the bottom of the invite it said 'monetary gifts preferred.' They felt it was rude to ask for money in such an obvious way and felt they weren't being invited because the couple really wanted them there, but rather, just wanted them for their cash.
HTH.

Re: Is it tacky?
I do understand where you are comming from. My fh and I live together and didn't want to registar. We went to BB&B to registar for a few things so that ppl would have something to buy us if they weren't comfortable with money. We registared for about $1000 worth of things ($300 knife set, $350 dishes, a romba and a few odds and ends). People were very happy to know we were registared somewhere and most gave gifts.
I don't think you should write anything about monetary gifts...

Re: Is it tacky?
What about a honeymoon registry. I don't know exactly how it works, but my sister in law did it.

Re: Is it tacky?
We set up a HM registry, so far everyone who has asked where we are registered has had a good reaction to it, we are in the same boat we already own our own place and have soooo much of the usual shower gifts..so try looking into the HM registry gl!

Re: Is it tacky?
Extremely tacky, IMO.
You really should register.... what will you receive at your shower? people will not be handing out cash at the shower. if you have a lot since you live together, why not choose some higher end items like fine china and crystal, really good comforters or sheets, update the appliances, etc.??? people will be expecting you to register. cash gifts are for the actual wedding only.
godo luck!

Re: Is it tacky?
I agree that it is impolite to mention anything about any kind of gift on any invitation that you send out. If someone is throwing you a shower, then you may want to consider registering to give your guests the option of giving you either money or a gift (I think most people will give a gift or gift certificates at these events)...If what you really want is money from your guests, then ask your parents or a close friend to casually spread the word to whomever asks...but I wouldn't ask for it myself.

Re: Is it tacky?
I'm not sure that I would be comfortable 'hinting' towards $$ as a gift and would probably be nervous about some fo the things you will get when you don't register.... What about a honeymoon registry??

Re: Is it tacky?
we will be doing a combo of things.
first, we are doing a honeymoon registry. my mom doesn't understand it and i don't think she likes it, but too bad.
second, like another liw bride mentioned, we will be registering for a FEW higher end things - ie new sheets, comforters, towels, a few kitchen things. this will be a limited registry since we already live together and don't need anything.
trust me - i would also prefer cash, but it's crude to ask for it and people like to give gifts. so i have to give them the option - if the registry is all taken, then they have a choice to give cash or some gift that i will likely return. it sounds harsh, but true.
