Is it tacky?

Original post by causeimb

FH and I don't want a registry because we already live together and we don't need anything. Is it tacky to mention that there is no registry but monetary gifts are accepted?

one thing to bear in mind: people are gonna wanna buy you stuff....
a woman at macys told us that we should register for crystal.... i was thinking i dont need crystal, she said that 'someone' is gonna wanna buy us a nice peice of crystal so wouldnt we rather have it be something thats our style.
now, im still not sure that i want crystal, however if someone is going to force it on us i would rather it be something that is not an old cachkee that will just hide in the corner somewhere.... lol

My mom is surprising us with our honeymoon. While we were at dinner lastnight. We had 8 pieces of paper total., he picked 4 destinations and I picked 4 destinations. So that's needed either

A friend of my cousin's is getting married on Saturday and that's what she wrote. Not in those words.

I am in the same boat as you are. I registered at BBB. I threw in some sheets, a new colander, some bathroom excessories, I put our toasting flutes and cake cutter on there too. Just put about 20 things on there. You can find 20 inexpensive things. This way people can give you a gift. Plus if you return a gift from your registry then you get cash back. I'm not going to do that but you may want to.

IMO - it is ......impolite to make such a request on an invitation. It probably will seem offensive to some people. You can always ask your parents to make the inference for you - for instance many times people will ask them what you two may want. I definately would look into the HM registry. It is a way to avoid being too forward and get the $$$ you want. With the HM people will like the fact that they are making a contribution to a special time in your life - And you get to decide what you do with the $$$$. I myself have registered at Macy's - for engagement/shower and also have the HM registry.

IMHO i think it is a little rude...if you dont put a registry then people probably wont buy you gifts

tacky. but you can always spread it word of mouth. like if someone calls your mom and asks what you guys want, it wouldn't be tacky of her to say 'well, they have pretty much everything already... money may be your best bet...' and then offer a registry if you do have one.

a honeymoon registry is always good, though i probably won't be doing this b/c i want something i can use longer.

register for the things you don't have or want upgrades of, or things that you'll never buy yourself. my guess would be once those run out people will resort to money, though as someone ^ said, registries are generally only for showers anyway (though outside of li/nyc this generally isn't the case).

register at places where you get cash back. pain in the a$$, but it's an means to an end.

good luck! hope none of my options sounded tacky - i didn't mean them too.
