Is it tacky......

Is it tacky......

to invite people without guests? We are trying to cut down our list. We have a large group of HS friends but if we invite them all with dates it might be an extra 30+ people.

I don't think it's necessarily tacky - will some people be upset? Yes probably, but I think you should only invite people without guests if they aren't dating someone seriously or engaged/married. I went to a wedding recently and she invited everyone that wasn't dating someone without a date - Everyone had fun anyway!

I was thinking the same thing, but i think im going to invite without a guest if they are not in a relationship. It just gets to be too much $$$

I think anyone over 21 should be invited with a guest - it is not for us to determine how 'serious' their relationship is or is not and adults should have the option to bring someone - Sorry, JMHO

I agree- if someone is not in a serious relationship then I don't think you need to allow a guest.

I don't think it's tacky. Some people will complain, but you can't spend all this extra money just to please everyone else. Most of the weddings I've been to this year the bride and groom didn't invite everyone with guests. One only invited engaged or married couples with guests. The others invited only those with serious relationships - and if they weren't sure how serious they based it off how well the knew the guests.

this is a very difficult thing....I would recommend inviting singles with guests only if :

1-they are in a serious relationship
2-they are travelling from afar

I have to agree. I mean I know FI's brother just started dating this girl and if the wedding was next month and we didn't invite her there would be 'issues'. I don't think it's our place to decide the seriousness of the relationship. JMO!

I agree. Who should we be to decide that. We were thinking the same thing but everyone was telling us all different things. On our list we have everyone with dates and I think we are just gonig to suck it up and do it! THANKS EVERYONE!

glad to help
throughout my wedding planning i have been trying to think of myself as a guest. yes, i understand it is my day, or our day - but i want people to enjoy themselves. the last thing i want is for people to have a bad time and that includes being able to bring someone with them if they choose. believe me, not all people will even bring a guest, but at least they have the option if they want.

I am not allowing all my guests to bring dates. We would have wayyy too many people. I mean some people of course will have dates but if you are single then I think you should come single

I would invite everyone with guests but hopefully if they are not dating anyone than they will not bring a date.

We didnt invite everyone with a guest. If they didnt know anyone then we did, if they had gf or bf that we have met they are invited with a guest. I understand that Im not really the one to decide who has a real relationship or not, but Im not interested in meeting new people at my wedding-maybe im wrong for feeling that way but oh well, I cant make everyone happy all the time

Well put. I mean do you really want people that you have to pay for that you dont even hardly know? or that arent that close to the person that you really want to invite. I agree with iBCraZ131, if they are involved in a serious relationship they dont have to be invited

I couldn't have said it better. At times in my 20's when I wasn't in a relationship and was just dating, I got wedding invites w/out a guest from relatives that I see once every 5 years. How do they know who I have in my life and how serious it is. Of course, I didn't got to the majority of them.

I don't think so. we can only invite a certain # of people because of the size of our room. If our friends don't have girlfriends, then we aren't inviting dates for them I dont think it's necessary

I don't think it's tacky unless it's someone you know REALLY well and they have a significant other that would feel left out. For the people I work with I'm only inviting them, not with guests.
