I don't think it's tacky. If people don't want to give a monetary gift, they'll give you a gift off ur registry.
Which Sandals?
What me & DH did, to start saving for our HM, was all the money from our engagement party we opened up a bank account strictly for the honeymoon. We had the 2 story villa honyemoon suite w/ private plunge pool and butler. so it was over $13,000 , so we had alot of saving . . .
If you want to do it, do it! Just remember, with all Sandals, the complete sum is due exactly 2 months before the HM!
We are staying at Halcyon Beach, St. Lucia. We have been saving our money for lots of wedding related things, HM being one of them. We wanted to stay within our budget and we were able to get the room we wanted within our budget. We got the grand lux ocean view room, which is what I wanted so I was very happy with that.
I didn't know we owed it 2 months before...our travel agent said 30 days.
Thanks for your help!

Re: Is it tacky??
I've heard of this before. My mom was invited to a bridal shower and go this and thought it was tacky.
I wouldn't do it. That's just my personal opinion though.

Don't think it's tacky. It's actually quite popular now.

Re: Is it tacky??
I thought it was cute, but the idea was shot down by my mom. I think it is better for a second marriage, for a couple who has it all, you know?

We stayed in the same class room at the Regency and loved it.
And we paid 60 days before, but our ta said we could have paid 30 days before.

I have been hearing about this alot. I haven't seen it done but have herd of it. It's a smart idea though to help you pay for your HM.

Re: Is it tacky??
I feel if the bride and groom has most of the things they would recieve at a shower, a HM registry is awesome. I have also seen a really great response from this from those who are looking to give a gift to the bride and groom.
I mean how many crystal bowls does one chick need? For me, if a couple told me they were registering I would put cash towards that. I would feel I am giving a gift toward the best 2 weeks of their lives. I would want to be a part of that.

I have had a lot of friends and family get married over the past two years, and have found as far as HM registries go, generally they are a lot more acceptable to the younger generations, who see the sense in registering for something helpful that you are going to be paying for; while the older generations do find it 'tacky' to pay for your vacation.
I agree. I do not think it is tacky, however I can see how someone older than us would see it that way. My older family members do not even like people registering for their shower. But that is just the way the older generation thinks.

Re: Is it tacky??
i dont think its tacky at all and i would love to contribute to someone's honeymoon
BUT my mom almost dropped to the floor when i told her that people do this - she is pretty old school
so you definitely just have to know your guests and how they will react!
i am going to sandals st lucia for my hm too - cant wait!

Re: Is it tacky??
My brother and SIL registered for their honeymoon and I thought it was great! They registered for several excursions in Hawaii and my gift to them was actually a helicopter ride. With that being said, I don't think I'd be happy with just giving cash towards someone's honeymoon. I'd prefer to know I was paying for something specific like an excursion or a special dinner. I think asking specifically for money, even though it's for a honeymoon, is not a good idea.

Matt and I booked our honeymoon yesterday and the travel agent gave us cards for a HM registry...I told my mom and she thought it was tacky? What do you think?
I don't want to offend my guests.
I couldn't disagree with your mother MORE!! WE did this and our guests paid for 1/2 of our Honeymoon and LOVED the idea. It really is the same thing if you really get down to it. Whether they give you money at the wedding, or money towards your honeymoon what difference does it make?? Some people are just VERY old fashioned and are sticklers about giving you money. It's YOUR wedding..do what YOU want!!!!
We also sent out cards w/our invitations..and NO ONE got offended. EVERYONE loved it! and was saying how GREAT it was.

Re: Is it tacky??
See my family is asking if we registered yet for our HM-they want to contribute for my B-day (Jan 30)-instead of just cash and also for my shower. So I don't think it's tacky.

Re: Is it tacky??
It seems to be the newest thing these days. I remember back in the day when some people thought regular registries were tacky.
I don't think a HM registry is tacky but most people I know do think it is...I think just because it hasn't been around long enough yet for people to know about it and get used to it so they hear it and think it's tacky.
Do what you want though - up to you! DOn't worry about what people will think!
