Is it tacky if......

Is it tacky if......

FH and I do NOT provide OOT guests with welcome packages at the hotel? I mean we are spending enough as it is. We're only talking a gift bag with poland spring, candy, magazines, and a map of L.I.

Thanks

i don't think its tacky to not do it. We only have a few people coming in from out of town, and only if i have time and extra money will i do anything like that. I think they're a nice gesture, but not necessary.

It might be - , you have to think about it this way, they are paying to travel - get something nice to wear - gas, and get you a gift - so its costly too for them, and its comforting to say hey - thanks for traveling so far to spend my special day with me - even if it is just a card with a map or LI - or of your fav places- thats what im doing - and some water and asprin or some candy and preztles.

I see what you're saying, I really do. However these guests that are traveling, we went to ALL of their other family functions and also, it's only an invitation to come to a weddin, not a written order. In other words if it's too costly for them to attend, they most likely won't. The hotel provides maps and brochures plus they get a hot breakfast in the morning included.

I don't think it's tacky. How many OOTers are you expecting? You can always get some supplies at Costco.

Ex.: Case of poland spring water, some snacks, candy etc.

Ithink it depends on your guests and wedding. We have a lot of OOT guests but they are all from LI. They don't need a map. We are also having an after party, they don't need water and chips. If the wedding is ending late, I don't think they will need the stuff. But if they are unfamiliar with the area and will be staying a day or more after the wedding, it would be useful. You're already giving them a party for thousands and thousands of $$ so I don't think it's absolutely necessary just a nice touch

Well we blocked about 15 rooms and I wouldn't even know if the OOTowners are even staying at the hotel.

I dont think its tacky at all. We're not doing them. As far as Im concerned its just an extra. Yes they are traveling and yes they are spending money on other things but if it was really going to be that much of a hassle they would have said no. They're there because they want to be there for you guys.

Re: Is it tacky if......

i think the word tacky is overused. not having oot boxes is not tacky.

having a cash bar is tacky. saying 'cash only' on your invite is tacky. oot boxes are a nice gesture, and they might be missed, but it's definitely not required and skipping them is not tacky.

we are doing them because we have a lot of people travelling from far away and we think its a little extra that will really make an impact. even if it's something like a lunch sac with 2 water bottles, a cookie and a welcome note it doesn't have to cost a lot at all.

YOU ARE NOT TACKY FOR SKIPPING IT THOUGH!!!!

Honestly I would never ever even expect them. I never got one nor did I think to do it for my guests. Maybe I'm tacky, I don't know..LOL, but I think that you are spending thousands of dollars to throw a beautiful wedding that they will enjoy and they wouldn't be coming if they dind't want to. Sounds like a nice touch but that's all it is. I'd be so surprised to ever recieve something like that...not the other way around!

i don't think it's tacky at all, but if you really feel unsure, maybe you can get some take out menus of places in the area and tie them up with a nice bow and a welcome note or something. possibly a map too. i know when i get into a hotel, the only thing i want to know is what food places are around and what's open - especially if i get in late or am up late at night.

I actually had never heard of OOT bags until I came to this site. None of my OOT guests will be staying at a hotel. We all just stay at relative's houses... so I wouldn't think it would be tacky.
