Is it thoughtless to give the GMs a mall gift certificate?
We thought about getting them all Coach wallets, then we thought about giving them sunglasses. But I don't think they will love either idea. We are so confused and are about to get them mall GCs, but does that seem like there is no thought involved? I just want to get something they will all like. I don't want to do watches or cigars either. Ahhhhhhhh!

I generally try to avoid GCs because of the reason you said--it could look like I didn't put any thought into it. However, if you can't think of something, I'm sure they'd appreciate getting something they can definitely use (the GC) instead of something that they're just ho-hum about. Especially after they'll have spent $$ on your FH's bachelor party, their tuxes, and a wedding gift, they might even appreciate the GC more. I think guys don't mind GCs the way girls do. I think it depends. For example, our BM lives hand to mouth. He is a musician and, no exaggeration, has declared bankruptcy twice. He recently had a health scare and doesn't have insurance. So we are giving him a GC. The last thing he needs is a trinket.

We got our GM (only 1 BM and 1 GM) a gift certificate to Omaha Steaks because they love steaks

I think especially from a man's perspective it's totally ok. My FH would be thrilled with a GC.

We gave our groomsmen $100 american express certificates.
And while some might think we didn't put any thought into it we actually did. We went through tons of ideas but really felt like each of them would appreciate this more. Men aren't like women in my opinon with needing sentimental stuff and this way they can get something they want or need.
So I don't think a mall gift certificate is a bad idea. We wrapped them up really nice and gave it to them with a card.

I'm going to give my sister a clothing store gift certificate. I think she'd appreciate it because she's married with two kids, she doesn't have the money to spend on whatever she would like. I'm sure she would much rather than that a trinket that she'll never wear.

thats so awesome, what a great idea!
I don't know about the gift certificates. My FH hates shopping, won't go near a mall or any store. He even bought my e-ring off the internet. What about a GC to Peter Lugers or some other steak house.
