I'm getting married in October of 2011 and I was wondering is it to early to do pre-cana?? How do I even begin with this process? I spoke to my priest and he told me to look on-line?!?!

Re: Is it too early to do pre-cana??
We're getting married in September and we completed precana this past October. The church at first gave me a tough time about doing it early but I explained our work schedules and why it was better for us then and they were okay with it.

I don't see why you can't do it now, but I know each church seems to have different rules. My pastor said for our June '11 wedding to take it in Oct. '10

Re: Is it too early to do pre-cana??
I had contacted someone from the Brooklyn Diocese and he said to do it within 6 months of the wedding. I know other people have taken it earlier in their engagement but I just played it safe and took it 5 months before the wedding.

Im getting married in March 11 and have already completed pre cana. I finished it in Nov. My churxh had no big deal about it. And the two couples in my class were getting married in Aug of this year.

Have yet to meet with the church, but it is my understanding that most church prefer that you do pre-cana at most 6 months before the wedding.

Re: Is it too early to do pre-cana??
If you are on LI - the Diocese of Rockville Center's website said you should take pre-cana 6 mo to a yr before the wedding. Here is the website:

FH and I are doing our precana course this weekend - abt 4.5 months before the wedding.

Re: Is it too early to do pre-cana??
My church told us 6 mos., but I convinced them to let us do it within 1 year out from the wedding since my parish had pre-cana in the beginning of November.

i think they will accept it at any time... but they prefer it within 6 months... cause my Deacon never mentioned anything about precana with in 6 months... but i remember it being on the website

Re: Is it too early to do pre-cana??
I didnt know about the 6 month rule for the Diocese but my church is in Nassau County and the Deacon told us we would be completing Pre-Cana sometime in early March...Which would be 7 months before the wedding...
I'd call the church and ask!!

Re: Is it too early to do pre-cana??
We had a Sept. 2009 wedding and had our pre-cana in early Feb. 2009.
We wanted to just get it over and done with! I gotta tell you, it was such a good decision, once the summer came every weekend was madness. And who wants to give up a whole weekend in the spring or summer anyway?

Re: Is it too early to do pre-cana??
we did ours last month... they went around the room (well our group) asking when everyone was getting married and everyone else was june or earlier.... we were the only ones later in the year.... but it ended up a lot of the couples had tried to get earlier dates but the dates got filled too fast. we were also told to do it as early as possible.
Just call to sched and tell them you'd like to do it as early as possible.

Re: Is it too early to do pre-cana??
you should ask the Church that you are getting married in. luckily we did & we found out that they do a free one in March, so that's the one we are going to. Not only is it free the priest marrying us says, he only will keep us for an hour.
