Is it too soon to register?

Original post by billandme

My FI says it's WAY too early to register. He thinks we should register in March....what do you think?

I told him our parents want to get things off the registry for christmas.........but he's still not budging.

I know my bridal showers are in March........

Maybe I'm wrong???

When did you or are you registering?

You should register. DH and I got engaged in December and we registered in January. We had an engagement party in April.

Plus if you are getting married in May, your shower should be in March (or so if not earlier) so if people want to shop for you early (and they do) then you should register before January.

And there is the added bonus that people will buy you Xmas gifts off of it. In fact, we will be married 10 months on Christmas Day and I know a couple of people are buying some leftovers off our registry for Xmas.

Nope-we just registered and we aren't getting married until 10/07/07.

You just need to stay on top of discontinuing items - and you can do that online. As it gets closer check it to make sure everything is still available. You can always add or take away online.

I too was registered shortly after getting engaged....2 years before my wedding. I've had to alter it much with discontinuations and styles changing, but it's minor adjustments instead of having to do the whole thing.

Keep in mind - you can start your registry online if you want! Also - it can be in more than one place.

Good luck!

Registered in May right after we got engaged. Wedding was in October.

Wow, if it is too early for you then I must be really really early. I am not getting married till the end of September and I just registered last week.

I definitly don't think it is too early to register.

Actually etiquette is that the registry is for the showers not the wedding so you should register 2 mos before you 1st shower (rough estimate).

Re: Is it too soon to register?

We registered maybe August '05 and got married in April '06. We had people bugging us to register for MONTHS before that, basically right when we got engaged the previous fall. I would definitely do it now.
Also, it is a bit more involved than you may think (deciding what china pattern you want, making sure you have enough stuff at diferent price points, etc.) so I would NOT recommend saving it until right before your wedding..you will be stressed enough!

We were going to wait a while to register but after being asked where we were registered by about 10 different people and being told to go do it already, we are going to do it soon. Tonight at FH's aunt's we were being bugged to get a move on it so they can get us an engagement present. I always thought you waited until about six months before the wedding....I guess I was wrong.

You really should register soon. If you think your shower is in March, then the invitations will most likely go out 2 months earlier. FH and I registered this month. I didn't want to be in the stores during all the crazy holiday shopping.
