A few people told me its too soon to start looking, since I'm not getting married for another yr and a half. The only thing is, it's SO MUCH FUN trying on dresses..... but what if i find a dress NOW and a new style comes out in, say, September of this year???? How early did you ladies start looking? I feel like it's pointless for me to even start going...but I already started and now I can't stop!

Re: Is it too soon to try on dresses????
It is never to early to start to look. I ordered my gown in April of last year and I am getting married this Sept.

Defintiely start trying on dresses. You'll get a feel for what looks good and what doesn't. you'll be able to narow down your search for when you are ready to buy.

Re: Is it too soon to try on dresses????
I ordered mine and I am getting married in July of 05. Mine also takes a year to make and I am not taking any chances of it coming in with a problem only two or three months before my wedding! Go look, I see nothing wrong with it.

Re: Is it too soon to try on dresses????
I found my gown about a year before the wedding. I don't think it's too early for you to look.
But once I bought my gown, I stopped looking at gowns online and in magazines...I never want to second-guess my decision!

you could look now... go to a few stores try on different styles and see what looks best, cause they look different on verses on the rack

I don;t think it's too early to look. I'm going to start trying on 18mos in advance because a lot of top designers take 8mos-1 year to make the dresses. I think the 1yr mark is a good time to order, and now you have a few months to go on a tear trying on dresses until you find one you like.

Re: Is it too soon to try on dresses????
I started looking 1 year in advance and I found my dress right away...the first one I tried on actually!!!! My sister found her dress over a year in advance and ordered it, it was discontinued a week later! So don't look now if you are not ready to buy now, because you don't want the one to get away. Also if you buy one now, then stop looking!!!! So you don't see another one you like!

Re: Is it too soon to try on dresses????
I'm getting married the same weekend as you are and I already started trying on dresses. I have an appointment on March 2nd to look at a few more - then I'll take my MOH to make the final decision in April at the trunk show and place the order. I'm pretty sure about the dress I want and I think the advice above is great - once I place the order I'm going to stop looking.
It's a personal decision but either way - Have fun!!!!!

Re: Is it too soon to try on dresses????
Hey--we are getting married right around the same time and I have been wondering the same thing! I thought the 'appropriate' time might be like a year in advance. But, I am also very picky, so would it be better to start now? I haven't started looking yet, but if I do, I'm sure I'll be obsessed just like you!

Re: Is it too soon to try on dresses????
What is Kleinfeld's like? I want to go. I had just heard that you have to put a deposit down when you make an appointment. Is this true? Is it just a large store with dresses? Do you look at racks of dresses or does someone ask you what you want and they bring out dresses to you? How long did you stay in the store? When someone told me you have to put a deposit down for an appointment that they put towards your dress it turned me off a bit. I don't want to feel pressured into getting my dress there.

Hey Neesiepie! We're getting married on the same day!!! YAY!!!!! I was going to wait until a year before the wedding in September to go try on dresses. I've seen a Maggie gown that I'm just in love with and I can't wait to try it on. I'm hoping it will be the ONE! Have fun!!!

Re: Is it too soon to try on dresses????
I got mine last Jan for this July. I was glad I did because my dress was discontinued after only being shown for 5 months. I think about that dress every day. I also sent you a fm.

Re: Is it too soon to try on dresses????
I ordered mine at the beginning of the month. I picked the dress out when I was 15 (8 years ago). The lady at the bridal salon put the order in early, just in case the dress would be discontinued. I didn't want to take the chance of not having my dream dress. The salon will store it for me.

I don't think there is such a thing as too early.
Honestly I wish I started looking sooner. You have the luxury of taking the time to really look around, take time to price out whatever you are interested in and really do research to find your perfect dress!
