Re: Is it TRUE????

The last time I went on a cruise they said that they would accept an original birth certificate, but that was in November. It may have changed since then.

Re: Is it TRUE????

Yes. My mom is a travel agent and she told me that just the other day. It's getting enacted soon, although I can recall exactly when she said.

Re: Is it TRUE????

I think as of Dec 2006 it will be put into effect.

A passport lasts I think 8 years...and can be used for all sorts of identification...it is only about $60 I think (it's been a while since I got my first one)

It's definitely worth it to have it.

Yes. You must have a passport.

it depends on the country you are going to. Only a few places will accept your birth certificate.

Re: Is it TRUE????

yes, in december...possibly the 31st even....but for the summer at least, you are good to go...which worked out well for me because by the time we decided to go on one right away and booked ours, i didn't have time to get a passport......and if ours had been delayed, i might have had issues with the name as i would've needed to get the passport now but my name would be changed by the time we went and blah, blah, blah....but for now, you can still do the caribbean with no passport...at this point i'm only waiting b/c i'd have to get it and turn around and change my name...not worth it to me.

Re: Is it TRUE????

you do not need one in the caribbean until December 31. I'm going in late November-early December and was told we don't need one since FH doesn't have his.

Re: Is it TRUE????

You always needed a passport. Just places like Mexico, Canada, etc... had 'exceptions'.

I promise you could never use your birth certificate to go to Europe, Australia, etc....

Re: Is it TRUE????

my travel agent told us as of January that will be the case. She advised us because we're having a december wedding to order our passports because 1; we'll have them and 2; god forbid anything happens on our honeymoon that keeps us there till january, we wont be able to get back!!! i would order them...it cant hurt & it usually only takes 3-6 weeks to come in the mail.
