to make my own invitaitons rather than to get them done? I'm inviting about 220 to the wedding and saw very pretty invitation kits at michaels today. Do you think its worth the trouble? Also, what would I do for the outside envelopes?

for me, price-wise, it was worth it. if you're inviting 220, that doesn't mean that you need 220 invites. you'll need a lot less than that.
from what i've seen, the kits at craft stores are pretty easy to put together.
you can get the outer envelopes at craft stores or online. the place i got my invite components from sell envelops of many different sizes

I have done invites from those kits before. If you do use them go with a kit through Wilton - they have the easiest website to use. You have to have a high quality printer and a lot of ink and patience! I did the invites for my e-party and my parents 25th wedding anniversary party with those kits and it took a LONG time. Both times I did about 35 invites and they took me several hours (5-6 hrs) because you have to line everything up perfectly and make sure you run each sheet through perfectly. Its time consuming but for a ink cartridge and a few packages from Michaels with those 40% off coupons you can save a TON.
Good luck!

Its ime consuming. I am going to make my own-prtinting out a recent photo of Peter and I on the original cardstock of the invite, then have to print our info on vellum to attach that to the white invite with ribbon....going to be a pain in the bumpkin but a friend of mine said she would help so it will be all right. We will save A TON even with the ink. LOVE the 40% off AC moore coupons!

I think its def worth it. I got my Invites from ACMoore.....and had 50% off coupons so each box (of 50 invites) ended up costing me 11.08 EACH!!!!! The Kit comes with the invites, rsponse card and the invite envelope and response card envelope. I had to get seperatly reception cards. Im sure I could have done without those but I figured what the heck...50% off
I think it will be a little time consuming but once you get everything all figured out printer wise and stuff it will be smooooooooth sailing.
What invites were you looking at?

Thanks girls,
I can't remember the name of the invites...They were really pretty with a green floral background and green bow. I think I'll check out some ivite prices, then do some comparing. I dont want to mess them up!

I would definately say it's worth it ...if you have the time to make them. Tehy do take a while..I actualyl just made my entire sample..with directions, accomodations, and response cards with the invitation. It took a long time....but it did save us $250!!! And everyone that sees them say they look professional. I just bought paper sized card stock from Michaels ($4 for 50 sheets), made everything in Microsoft Word, and used a paper cutter to cut them down to the correct size. WE did order out pocketfold invites online though ($133 for 80).
