Is milk dangerous for dogs??

I just got up to answer the door, and when I came back I found Arnold on the kitchen table drinking my glass of milk.

Is he going to get sick? Should I call my vet??

I don't think it's dangerous (but I don't know) - if anything, I'm guessing a tummy ache.
My choc lab can eat anything - and has including marshmallows, crayons & hyacinths (which are poisonous)!!!

Jenn - I dont know. Have you tried to do a search on the internet? One time I thought my dog had the smallest piece of chocolate and I freaked, but after doing a search on the internet I came up with alot of info and found a little was ok. So sorry this happened.

I've been searching the internet, and I've been coming up with lots of porn sites (apparently 'milk' and 'dog' are porn key words ), but no info yet.

Arnie's been behind the couch since I caught him, but I'm not sure if it's because he doesn't feel well, or because he got yelled at for being on the table.

I finally found some info. Here it is, just in case anyone's ever in the same situation...

Milk (Disagreeable)

If your pet has been eating ice cream and yogurt and has never had any problems, you have a lucky pet. Many dogs are lactose intolerant -- unable to produce the enzyme lactase -- so they cannot break down the lactose, or milk sugar, in dairy products. Milk just does not agree with them.

If your dog drinks milk and you observe symptoms such as excess gas, diarrhea, dehydration or skin irritation, you should determine if she is lactose intolerant. Removing milk from her diet should cause all her symptoms to disappear.

To avoid or correct the problem, you can purchase lactose-free brands of milk products specially formulated for dogs. Lactose-free milk for humans can also work, although the nutritional balance is not quite as good. Canned milk or sweetened, condensed milk is usually tolerable, even to a lactose intolerant dog, and can make a good substitute for the occasional must-have treat.

Glad you found the info. Now you can relax knowing that it is ok that he had a bit.

How funny that you kept coming up with porn sites!

Glad he is okay.

Re: Is milk dangerous for dogs??

Ladies,

Growing up our Chow Chow was always given cereal with a bit of milk. I never thought twice about it & she loved it.

Then just 3 years ago I got my own puppy (my avatar) and did the same w/ her. Was told how it is not good, etc., so I asked my vet. He said the same thing that was posted, that most dogs do have an aversion to milk. He said if it does not seem to bother her, then he wouldn't worry, although he didn't recommend it daily.

She's now 4 & basically is on strictly dog food (wet/dry), no cereal and eating once a day.

I'm sure your doggie w/b fine.
