Is my dress simple?

Is my dress simple?

FMIL told our florist my dress was simple...I didn't really think it was...it has loads of beadwork and though it doesn't show up in pics, there are beads on the skirt as well.

working on uploading the pics of me...it was too big.

fmil's always know how to word things that seem like they are being nice but sound bad-- god i hate that, mine does it ALL THE TIME...

try to just say to yourself 'elegant' which it most certainly is!!! i think the dress is beautiful and don't let the fact that she does not know how to communicate effectively (just like mine ) ruin how you feel about it!!

you'll look gorgeous!!

Cheryl your dress is not simple at all, its gorgeous. I think it is just our moms/FIL's, etc. are used to the ornate lacy, flowy, flowery dresses of yesterday with the high necks and long sleeves and so anything not like that to them is 'simple.'

Personally don't let what she says bother you. My FMIL had nothing to say when I showed her a pic of my dress. She just said 'OH this is your dress.'

From what I can see it is perfectly fine. If there is alot of bead work you do not need anything else. Sweetie, remember less is always more. I am a person who adores simple things.

Maybe she means simple compared to poofy 1980's dresses.

I think the dress is elegant and beautiful.

It depends on what 'simple' means to her. You can bring a pic of your dress to the florist.

I adore this dress..its saved as one of my favorites!

Like Dani said, FMIL's sometimes don't know how to say things.

If by simple she means not gaudy, not overdone, just a little beadwork but not too much, and not bows all over the place, then yes its simple.

But if by simple she means boring and nothing to it, she's absolutely wrong.

That dress is perfect!

edited for spelling.

IMO simple is a good thing when it comes to wedding dresses - to me, it means it's classic and you won't be looking at pics 20 years from now saying, 'what was I thinking?!'
So, next time she refers to your gown as 'simple', say, 'thank you, but I actually prefer the term 'classic'.
BTW, it's beautiful!

i do think she expected some poufy, lace tablecloth dress....after seeing which invites she preferred...it was kind of obvious. the old embossed flowers in that pearly look (nothing wrong with that...but not very modern at all) with like pink writing....personally, i was shocked they still made them! when she said 'simple' i felt like i was wearing a sheet.

My mom said my dress was simple as well. She meant elegant, not boring. Ignore FMIL when she speaks.

I would interpret her saying simple as not overdone also, but to eliminate any confusion by the florist, I would make sure the florist gets a picture too so that she doesn't overdo your bouquet misunderstanding herself what FMIL meant by simple.

I think it is lovely. People have expectations based on what THEY like and when they are not met, comments are spewed out with little thought. Many people thought I would go for a traditional gown myself and were rather shocked when I went for non traditional. You enjoy you dress and ignore the comments!

If your dress is simple mine is plain!
I have not one bead or lace or anything on mine.
It is all about what looks good on you!
Before I was engaged I imagined my dress to be cinderellaish and my actual wedding dress couldn't be further from it. To each is thier own.

your dress is not simple AT ALL!

it's funny... your FMIL is the exact opposite of my mom. if she sees one bead on a dress it's too much

you can't please everyone, and you shouldn't have to!

It is simple..as in elegant and not tacky and overly beaded. It's gorgeous. Simple doesn't mean bad!
