Sometimes I can't believe the prices of homes here on Long Island!
Luckily I own a home but DH and I talk about buying another home in a couple of years and I just can't justify it!
It seems a 4 bedroom colonial in a nice neighborhood could cost anywhere from $600K to $800K. Is that worth it?
Do you think that $600K to $800K for a house is reasonable?

Reasonable?? NO! But unfortunately, it's the reality of it.
It really is discouraging. I own a home also, but like you, would love to upgrade and I just don't see that happening

it's insane - this is why we are not buying on LI or tri state local area. We just can't - not worth it to us. My parents will come visit and DH's parents are far away to begin with!

It's the same in Cali or the nicer suburbs of DC and Boston. We live in the center of the world and we pay for it. Its not fair and I wonder how the next generation will do it.

That is why we moved Upstate. My DH is from here and I am from LI and we discussed it because I owned a house in Selden and it was much less expensive to move up here. We built a 2700 sq foot house (we designed it) on 20 acres and the house is beautiful and it is about at least half or maybe a fouth of what it would have cost on LI!

Sad but true! That is why for me..LI is a nice place to visit, but not where I want to live anymore.
