I have a good friend who is dating a guy who is a part of an ' up and coming' group. Its 4 guys who have a cd recorded ( hip hop & pop) I have heard them and they are actually REALLY good. They just finished writing a new 'wedding song' and are really proud of it. They have approached me asking if they could preform a few songs ( my choice which songs) at some point during the reception. They have different 'dances' for different songs and even have backup dancers.
Should I let them do it?? Is it cheesy?? I really think they will be big eventually they are singing the national anthem at nassau collisum in a few days and we went to the mall the other day and girls were coming up and asking for autographs and taking pictures

I think that sounds nice, but I would ask if they can maybe do a demo so you cna have an idea of what they will be doing. I mean, backup dancers are nice...but what if they end up doing cartwheels and backflips all over your dance floor??? I would want to see them in action first....

I dont understand what would make that cheesy? I think it's a nice idea. Plus it adds to your day if they do hit it big.

If you like their music and style then go for it. I think your guests will appreciate that your wedding is different than every other one they've been too.

I have already heard them both in person with no music in the background and on the cd. I was just asking if it was cheesy b/c its boy band kinda stuff... like a backstreet boys or 98 degrees. I just dont know if thats more for teenage girls then for a wedding.

JMO, but I wouldn't do it. It would be different if YOU sought them out and wanted them to perform at your wedding because you liked them that much but it kinda sounds like they approached you. It's sounds a little like they want to use your wedding for exposure. You don't want to turn your wedding day into an American Idol type of thing.
On the other hand, if it's that YOU really think it would add a cool element to your wedding, then by all means.

I would probably let them do a few songs. Just make sure you know exactly what they're doing and I would probably skip the dancers. I think it would make them more like a show or the 'main event' than simply music at your wedding. You and your FH should b the main focus, not them.

I agree...If you really would like it, that's great, but if you feel weird and aren't sure, don't feel bad about saying no-don't just do it b/c they asked you

i would do it!!! as long as you know what songs they'll be performing or what 'dances' they'll be doing at your wedding. so that you KNOW you'll like their performance.
it's something different and i don't think it will take the spotlight away from you and your husband. i've always enjoyed some entertainment at a wedding (nothing overboard of course.)
in my opinion, no one can ever take the spotlight away from the couple.

I would do it, it will add a personal touch! I mean people singing a brand new song just for you! I was at a friends wedding last summer and 3 different people close to them sang for everyone. It was sweet.
