I have been told that it is recommended to give your Maitre ‘D tip about $2,000 -$3,000. Is it true??????? This amount was not in my budget .

we were told $4 to $7 a head-- I think we gave $6.. for a lot of people.. the tip is not just for him-- but for the captains and the waiters, etc.

OMG!! that's a fortune!!!!! I would say not unless you're having a thousand people at your wedding!

I just have 150 people. I have asked my FH where he got those high recommendation price for Maitre ‘D. He said he saw it on the estimated bill from Jericho Terrace. I just looked it up and of course he got it all wrong!!!! It says there $1000-$1200 not $2000. It is still high comes to $8 per person.

$8 pp??!! give me a break! of course THEY are going to recommend that.
When FH and I went looking at venues for the wedding, one of the places we looked at was the Roslyn Clairmont Hotel. we told the BM up front that we're having around 50-60 ppl and he said later on that he usually gets tipped $500. that would have been $10 pp for us. I don't think so!
I think if you tip $2-$4 pp that is fine! $4x 150 = $600 and that is generous, IMO. don't forget that you're also paying 18% gratuity as part of your hall fee.

When I went to sign my contract, my banquet manager said that $500 is customary.

Yeah, our place (the same as yours) recommended about $5-6 per person. We gave him $400 which was a little more than $4pp.
They do a great job, I promise, but tipping that much is nuts!

I've heard that $1-5 per guest is appropriate. I ended up tipping $3 per guest.

We gave ours absolutely nothing. He didn't do a thing all night. My DJ and Photographer did everything for us.
In answer to your question, IMO that is too much. I would have given $2-$4 per person.
