yes there is. a basal therometer measures your temps to a much smaller degree than a 'normal' one. I highly suggest you use a digital one too. i got mine at www.babyhopes.com it was not expensive and worth every penny.

I bought one and never used it, i can not remember to take my temp AS SOON as i wake. You are supposed to do it before you even get out of bed, etc.

Yeah, I don't know how people are able to remember to take their temp as soon as they wake up.

Jenn - same here! I bought one after reading that book everyone raves about, but used it once! LOL I'll never remember to do that each and every day, before getting out of bed no less.

I've been doing it for months! It just becomes part of your routine. The alarm goes off at 5:30am and DH his snooze -- I take my temp -- and go back to sleep for a few more minutes and then just get up for work.
There have been about 2 days where I completely forgot to take it. But otherwise it just becomes second nature.
The biggest advantage is I have good information that I was able to share with my doctor so that we took take some action since we haven't been having success TTC. If I didn't have that info that doc probably would have told me to wait until we had been trying a year. Instead we had been trying for five months and now I'm on treatment. Still no success but at least I have some data.

I did it for a year and recently stopped. I actually miss doing it! It was really interesting and informative. Of course DH does NOT miss the beeping every morning

I have been doing it for a month now - and I have to agree - it does become second nature.
I also have to agree that the information it provides is priceless. The whole process has been very informative to me and interesting. I keep wondering - how come I did not know all this information earlier!
My DH got annoyed at first with the beeping - but now he never notices.

I am shocked and saddened that NO doctor ever even told me about how my basal temp. was an indication of my cycle. It should be apart of our health education classes and freely discussed by OB/GYNs. It is priceless information that could really help many women, and it costs only about $10 for a therometer. Why not allow women to understand their bodies better without the aid of a doctor or expensive medical technology.

Unfortunately I think a lot of dr's just try and rush to see each patient and they don't want to take the time out to explain any of these things.
