Is there a difference: Brand name & generic?

I think the store iced tea mix is just as great as Lipton. I also like the KK cookies, just as good as brand name and less expensive.

I find a lot if the generic stuff is just as good, but I have also come across some thing that were yucky. It is just trial and error.

Re: Is there a difference: Brand name & generic?

My sister tried the store brand mayo and ketchup, they were terrible.

I have used from Waldbaums, their english muffins, breads, some of the chips (potato, pretzel), their tuna, soup mixes (for dips), slider storage bags, garbage bags. The food items were just as good and the non food items quality was just as good. As I think of more I will post them.

lol... cute story on the tuna- when I found out my baby (cat) had cancer in her mouth and had to switch to can food, I went food shopping and bought her brand names food. I bought tuna the same day for DH, store brand! I still haven't heard the end of that one...

This can help us to save money when we are grocery shopping.
I discovered today that I am better off going to the deli for our cold cuts because its so much cheaper than the supermarket.

Store brand A-1 sauce. I swear. I have brought it from Stop and shop and Pathmark. My husband wanted to throw it across the room, until he tasted it! I swear it is A-1 in the pathmark bottle!

And it is like $1.39 for the same size bottle that A-1 is for $5.00, Trust me you girls have to try it.!

When it comes to cheese, it has to be Kraft, orange juice Tropicana, anything else, I could care less what brand. It all tastes the same! I'm very picky with my cheese!

OH and my cold cuts HAVE to be boars head! I think that's it!

This is turning out to be a very helpful thread.

I have to add cheese to the Waldbaums brand (which is called America Choice). We both like it just as good as the name brands, and it is much cheaper.

Tylenol and Advil - The store brands are the same ingredients and much cheaper.

As far as I know, the store brands are made at the same factories as the name brands - in other words, the name brands own the factory and I guess lease it out? So just about everything is compareable...unless you have a preference or taste for a particular brand.

As a rule, I boycott ALL Proctor & Gamble products. I abhor that company.

Helene718 - that is so true. The cough meds as well and I just got eh Stop & Shop allergy med, and it works great too!!

Hellmans Mayo only, Heinz Ketchup only
Skippy or Jif PB only
paper plates- store brand is fine, paper cups too.
Frozen Veggies- some Stop&Shop is great, some others not so great.
Never store brand canned tomatoes
I like Boars Head cold cuts only

Some store brands are just as good, and some is just awful. I think you have to try and see for yourself. Oh, and I only like to use Williams Sonoma vanilla when baking and Philly Cream Cheese. And mozz and ricotta- Pollyo.

I do generic meds when possible, but personal stuff I like certain brands and don't change too often.

This is interesting!
I love Pathmark ice tea and pathmarks dutch fudge cookies!!!!
We buy a lot of name brand stuff though. DH does not like generic - which to me some things don't taste any different.
I grew up on a lot of generic brand foods. But we always had name heinz ketchup, hellmanns mayo, name brand cereals.

I don't know why-but I LOVE generic ice cream and generic OJ. My fiance DESPISES both!

When I go grocery shopping almost everything I buy is generic, just to save a few bucks!! But I agree, there are some things you just can't substitute...like some of the sliced cheeses, etc.

I bought Americas Choice yogurt instead of Dannon Light N Fit and thought it was yummy

America's Choice Rice-A-Roni is equally as good as the real thing. Also, store brand butter. Tastes exactly the same. I think America's Choice is a really good Generic Brand.

I buy Stop n Shop brand paper plates and cups, but napkins MUST be Bounty. That drives Patrick crazy. The store brand napkins just feel like cardboard to me!

Oh, and growing up, my mom instilled a fear in me that 2-ply toilet tissue will clog the pipes, so I only will buy Scot, which while not store brand, is definitely CHEAP!
