is there any thing wrong with levittown or the houses there?

I think you should research the history of levittown and how it came to be, who created it, and who was and was not allowed to live there. That is probably why some make faces when you say Levittown....

based on what i have heard levittown was orginally potato farms. due to major crop damage by nematodes, the land was sold off to build inexpensive homes for veterans.

Not to knock the average person, but I don't think most people are all that well-versed in the history of Levittown. In the initial doctrine blacks were not allowed to purchase houses there, but that was a long time ago. I can't see how that would deter a person from buying since that was lifted long ago.

People probably make faces because Levittown has a reputation for being a 'white trash' area (unearned, in my opinion; it's usually people who don't live there who have something to say) and people also don't care for the no basement factor.

Actually the no basement factor is the biggest factor we did not buy there.

I dont know the history either but its true everytime I mention levittown someone always has something bad to say and the number one thing they are saying is its white trash- I dont know why. I grew up in Wantagh since 79 and I have heard that ever since ( I was 9 when we moved there from Corona) and it amazes me that you still hear it- I drive through the back way to Ballys and that area it seems nice to me.

I work in Levittown. It's the best. I would move there, but I don't want to live in the same neighborhood as the students. Move into the MacArthur HS part of the district. That's my school! Go generals!

I have the same issue...I work at Salk.

the taxes are higher...... the houses we were looking at, a similar one in levittown was like 8,000. instead of 6,000. PLUS there was no basement............

i live in levittown too. born and raised here and bought a house here when i got married. my husband had the same 'issues' as everyone else, and now all he tells me is how much he loves it here.

levittown is a great neighborhood of hard-working families and community oriented people. there actually are no 'bad' areas like most towns have, just some houses are nicer than others.

i didnt grow up with a basement so i dont miss it, and houses here are very easy to expand. in fact many houses here are now adding a third story.

i dont know why people have something to say about it....but it all honesty, maybe us 'levittowners' better keep it our little secret!

there is almost no neighborhood that you can go to where there is no trace of a gang problem. Look at Carle Place, for example...good neighborhood with a horrible gang problem in their schools. I think it is a LI problem, not just levittown

Sorry I have to laugh. Pretty much lived there my whole life.. never got caught up in a gang battle.

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with Levittown...I was born & raised there...It has always had a bad wrap even when you speak to real estate reps....They say there is the good & the bad sections!

Im sorry I just don't understand. You cant comapre Roosevelt and Levittown 2 totally different places.

AND I have to say there is no BAD parts of Levittown CANT name one part.

AND there is definelty NOT a gang problem.

Roosevelt is no way comparable to Levittown. I would compare roosevelt to Freeport or Hempstead...but no way can it be compared to levittown.
