Is there such a thing as TOO formal? FAO: Blacktieguy!

Is there such a thing as TOO formal? FAO: Blacktieguy!

I have a black tie 'optional' wedding in October....I know the bride well and she really wants it black tie...it will be a very, very nice event.

Today, I bought a gown (wasn't planning on it but I fell in love)...floor length, dark navy blue, one shoulder with beautiful ruffles on the strap. It's very elegant. I guess I'm just not used to being SO dressed up, so I am concerned that I will be TOO formal. I suppose that at a black tie wedding, that's nearly impossible? Thoughts please!

This is the dress: http://www.terijon.com/index.php?file=gallery&igallery_id=5_180

I think it's STUNNING!!

and personally, I don't think it's too formal for a Black Tie event..

Thank you! I really think I'm always afraid of being over OR under dressed and offending the hosts either way. I know it's better to be overdressed in most cases, but at a wedding it's so touchy.

Unbelievable thing is...this is a $600 dress for 2011, and somehow (I'm baffled, but super happy), it was on clearance....for $25 at Bloomie's. Biggest deal I've ever had I think.

Can't beat that deal! Holy Crow!!

I'd want to wear it around the house and dance in it!!

I know! It made my day about 100x better.

It's big on me...I'll probably spend more on alterations than the actual dress costed. Figured that was worth it.

Did this sale at bloomies end already and is it a store only sale?

Gorgeous dress!!!

I don't think it's too formal. A lot of people wore floor length formal gowns to our wedding!

It was just on a clearance rack - I've gotten some amazing deals on Bloomie's clearance rack before, with no rhyme or reason why it was there. Last year I got a Ralph Lauren Black Label dress which retailed at $1500, for $80.

I believe the one I got today was an on-line return. There's nothing wrong with it...just wrinkled. I'm going to have to get it altered and steamed anyway, so I win!
