I have a black tie 'optional' wedding in October....I know the bride well and she really wants it black tie...it will be a very, very nice event.
Today, I bought a gown (wasn't planning on it but I fell in love)...floor length, dark navy blue, one shoulder with beautiful ruffles on the strap. It's very elegant. I guess I'm just not used to being SO dressed up, so I am concerned that I will be TOO formal. I suppose that at a black tie wedding, that's nearly impossible? Thoughts please!

Its a beautiful dress & I personally dont think its too formal for that sort of wedding!

And no, floor length gowns are the norm for black tie weddings. you will be fine.

LOVE IT!!! I think you will be totally fine wearing it...maybe just dont go over board with accessories to make it a little less formal to make you more comfy!

I never wear accessories! I'll probably just end up in diamond or pearl studs with a nice clutch and that's it. Thanks again girls!
Gonna have to figure out an updo hairstyle that I can possibly do on my own. I am NOT good at that.

I planned on using this giftcard I've been carrying around...had about $60 on it. I was going to put it TOWARD a dress at Bloomies. I walked out with money left on the card.
