Is this a bad idea??

Is this a bad idea??

My FIs mom is very shy and does not lie to draw attention to herself. My FI does not think she will want to do the mother/son dance. To help I suggested that we do the father/daughter and mother/son dance together. I thought we could both dance with our parent to the song 'Isn't She Lovely' by Stevie Wonder. What do you think about this idea. Do you think it will take away from the importance of each dance. Do you think my dad will feel slighted. What do you think about the song?? Is it an appropriate choice? Arghhh, decisions, decisions!!!!

I think sharing a dance is fine, but I also think that if she would be uncomfortable in the spotlight that its ok to skip the mother/son dance as well.

I would ask FI's mom personally about this. Even though she is shy, she may be looking forward to having this one dance with her son...

I agree with Alina... But if she feels funny having her own dance, I think what you have in mind is fine.... Your dad won't be insulted will he? Oops sorry, just read the ENTIRE post this time.... I think you should discuss it with your dad...

I would definitely ask her outright how she feels about the mother/son dance. My mom is super-shy but she was up there dancing at my brother's wedding.

If she's still nervous - then I think it's fine to combine the two.

I would say talk to both of them about it to make sure that no one would be slighted, if they are okay with it then by all means do what ever you want!

Definitely talk to FMIL before you make any decisions for her and then talk to your dad about it as well...if he's anything like mine, he'll tell you that something like sharing a dance is the least he can do to make his daughter happy...

It is a lovely idea.

I recently went to a wedding where this was done.

As a guest I kind of prefered it that way.

I LOVE the idea. If she doesn't like attention consider how she will feel during intros. I didn't do intros at all.

I think it's a nice idea, but definitely ask both your FMIL and your father to make sure it is ok with them. If she doesn't want to do the mother/son dance, don't worry about it!

Re: Is this a bad idea??

My dad was not excited at all about the father daughter dance. He is not a dancer and is also shy. So, what we decided to do was begin our dance alone and then the DJ would have everyone join us on the dance floor. We danced alone for about a minute than everyone joined us. It was really nice and helped take some of the attention away for him and made him more comfortable.

We combined dances & our parents were fine with it. Do what works for you guys

I think that is a great idea! But I would still run it by her and she how she feels about it.

I also love the idea & you can always dance alone w/dad to another song so he doesn't feel jilted

Re: Is this a bad idea??

Like everyone's said, just make sure that all parents are cool with the idea - you never know what will set people off (esp re:weddings as I'm learning). That being said - I think it's a great idea, of course I'm biased b/c we're doing it too! I wasn't really comfortable with the father/daughter dance (not at all part of my culture), but my dad really wanted to do this too, so I thought this was a good way to take some of the pressure off...
