Is this a cultural thing or what? Lateness

Is this a cultural thing or what? Lateness

This is a question for non Hispanic, and maybe it doesn't apply to all Hispanics, but definitely my nationality.

Is everyone putting in there EXACT time on their wedding invitations?

I ask becuase every time we have an event, and give people a time, we always say the real time and the Hispanic (dominican) time.

Like if im doing something at 8 i have to tell them at 6 to be there by 8... For my cousins wedding 3 weeks ago at jericho terrece she wrote on the Invite 6:00pm for a 7:30pm coctail hour and most people still didn't arrive til 8.. She also had to put the church starting time an hour before.

So im thinking i definitely have to put in everything 1 hour and half earlier on my invite, but then im worried for the other people who will arrive on time ughhhh but i know for sure if i put in the correct time, i will have an empty ceremony.

For weddings im always on time, but i am just as guilty as the rest of my family/friends when it comes to showing up late, and its not even considered rude to us, because its just the norm already...

fh is european and doesn't take it as rude either. He'll be late and think it's no biggie and it was an issue for me because I like to be on time. He's become way better at it though.

That is a hard question. I would put the correct time, the MAX 30 mins earlier so that people who DO arrive on time don't have to wait around too long. IMO, it's just as rude to have people arrive and hour and half EARLY!

I know I would not be in the best mood to party because I would be the one to arrive on time.

FH would come an hour later and tell me 'I told you so.'

EEEEK...

if I was invited and didn't know that the time meant later i would show up at the time posted...

maybe think about doing 2 different invites???

I'd be careful bc people who are on time will be standing around doing nothing and mad that your time was incorrect.

and yes, FH (columbian/panamanian) and I are always arguing bc he's always late! I'm always saying, 'and that's white people time Anthony!'

hahaha we called it Latin time in the catering business. Seems Parties always start late.

It's tricky-i'm usually on time to weddings. I've been to several black weddings where they put a certain time on the invitaion. And i was literally sitting waiting almost an hour for the ceremony to start. I'm getting married at the hall; and most that i've looked at have told me to put an 1/2 hour earlier on the invitation and that they'd do a hospitatlity room for early (on time guests).

Wow, I dont know! And here I've been agonizing over if I should put the right time, 15 min. early, or 30 min. early (we have a 15 min. hospitality thing before).

So the one time I was 5 min. late for a wedding I almost missed the ceremony. Since then I've made sure I was 30-15 min. earlier then the time on the invite. So if I ended up being 2 hours early I think that would be pretty frustrating. If you really think it will be a problem then I agree with the suggestion of having 2 invites. Good luck!

If lateness is an issue; i'd put an early start time. You don't want to have to hold up the ceremony for any important people that aren't there yet. And also; is there anyway you can put that the ceremony 'promptly starts' at whichever time on the invite; and make sure to spread the word that it starts on time so people know??

lol start a rumor that there will be a raffle at the ceremony for an amazing gift! then when people ask, say 'I don't know where that rumor started.' lol

if you have a hospitality time, put that on your invite.

I think i may just have to do the 2 invites or something... Because i would feel so bad for the people who are there early... Esp since my hall doesn't have a waiting area.

Atleast for hers, they had a room open beforehand serving Wine and Beer

Oh yeah, my RH did say i can invite 30 min earlier, but even they said joking 'ohhhhh a Latin wedding, everyone will miss the ceremony since they will be late'

And my # 1 reason for getting married at the RH instead of the Chuch, was so that everyone can see me getting married. I get so frustrated when 80% of the guest just show up to the reception to drink and eat. (dont know if thats another cultural thing also, but all my friends churches are empty during their ceremony)

I hate that. someone had the balls to ask me if they were invited to the wedding 'not the ceremony, the party part.'

yeah, RIGHT!

We also have to put an early invite time for our ceremony as well. The reception hall where we're having our ceremony suggested it.

I'm not hispanic, nor is my groom, but everyone in both of our families always run at least a half hour late.

*crashing*

So, I'm marrying a salvadorean. Pretty much the same thing. On my invited I put 5:15 for a 6pm ceremony. I don't want anyone missing it! Even though I know there still will be some people who will be late.. oh well I guess lol

My dad, FH and I will be spreading word by mouth though of the real time to the chronic early birds, just so they don't show up at like 4:30 lol

And I also have to add that aside from his fam, I'm worried about my friends who are always late to everything too!

I'm sorry but I would be P.O.'d if I was waiting around for over an hour.

FH is hispanic and we are putting the real time for both the church and the RH...I feel like if you can not get there on time then that is your lose..I also think it's rude to not come to the reception and only the RH (except with a good reason)

My family runs on 'black folks time' so I'm putting on the invitation 4:00 but the wedding isn't really starting till 4:45.

Lol, I actually am putting an earlier time . I think I am doing about an hour earlier than we actually are. My immediate family is very punctual, its the rest of my crazy Puerto Rican family.
