ok so we are getting married a week before xmas next year.. i dont wanna be away on our honeymoon during xmas -
i was thinking of doing vegas for like 4 or 5 days the day after the wedding and then like 5 or 6 months later going on a real honeymoon somewhere like Sandals or something for a week....
does that sound stupid???
my other option was to not do a honeymoon right after the wedding, and waiting until january to go away for a week - the problem with that is... weather out of NY in the winter is iffy....
any opinions?

no not stupid at all! a minimoon right after and then the honeymoon in a few months! As long as you get a few days just to be with FH alone after the big day..I think its a great idea!

people do mini moons all the time, esp those teachers out there who cant get away during the school year and just do a couple days away somewhat close to home

That doesn't sound stupid at all! It doesn't say anywhere you have to go on your honeymoon right away (but will tell you, after the wedding, my head was totally in the clouds & it was hard to go back to work for a week before going on our honeymoon.)

Ita the more vacations with the fh the better! Not sure if u have kids already but if u don't remember vacations ain't be the same once they come along!!

I think that not only is it a great idea, its a smart one too!!
Plus having a romantic mini getaway and then a honeymoon vaction gives you something to look forward to, and the anticipation/ planning leading up to it could be all the more fun

we are not taking our official HM until Jan 2012 (8 months after the wedding!). We have his cousins wedding in Ireland next summer and I'm going to need all my vacation time for the year for that - and I hardly count a vacay with all of FH's family a HM.
We may go for a few days somewhere after the wedding but not sure yet. But it's totally fine to wait for your HM. Hey, it's a vacation to look forward to.

heeheee I spoke to FH about it, and he is okay with it too!
So i think right after the wedding, we will do vegas for a few days and then a few months later something TROPICAL!!

Thats exactly what we are doing! We are taking a minimoon between our wedding and christmas, and then in the springtime we are going to do our big honeymoon trip. Not stupid at all ... totally makes sense!

No way it doesn't sound stupid. It sounds great! Think about it, you get to go away for a mini-moon and still have your big vaca to look forward too after all the chaotic-ness has died down.

Not at all! That's what we did! We went on a cruise 2 days after the wedding but with DH's entire family, so it wasn't a HM. We just took a cruise 2 weeks ago for our HM. It was nice to have something post-wedding to plan and look forward to!

Just wanted to add that FH and I are both teachers and since we're getting married in November, we will have to have a delayed honeymoon! We also wanna spend our first married Christmas with family, so the plan is to do a weekend mini-moon the weekend after the wedding (which will be Veterans day/3-day weekend) and probably go on our big honeymoon the following summer.
Also gives us time to save up for a really awesome trip after spending all our cash on wedding expenses!
