is this a wedding dress 'lie'???

i need to know if this is true or not.
went today for the first time to try on dresses.

found one i reallllly like..but was told that each week they get a list of dresses that are going to be discontinued..and there is no way to know week to week what will be available or not.

meaning..you like it... buy it now.

i do understand sales people try to get you to buy now..but is this a lie to get the money today..or is this true??

btw it was david's bridal.

i truly love the dress..but i would also like to look around to make sure.( side note. this weekend is a 6 month free interest card plus 15 percent off accessories if you buy a dress)

please let me know asap :) xxoo jenn

I went to a davids bridal and they said something similiar about my veil. She said that they were discontinuing it but she was able to order one for me which is coming in later in November

it was a sales pitch, plain and simple.

continue to look around if you want to.

I fell in love with the dress and veil before she had mentioned that it was discontinued. I was going to buy it anyway. But I'm a bit upset about this whole discountinued stuff

they work on comission, so I am not surprised at all.

Designers do discontinue dresses-but they give the stores MONTHS notice when they decide to discontinue it.
My friend passed on that little bit of info to me when she found out I was engaged. Maybe some stores really dont know-but all in all its a sales pitch

Totally a gimmick. David's Bridal always gives you some sort of sales pitch after you are trying on dresses. If they can tell you love a dress, they lay it on. They told me if I bought it that day, it would be on sale. I think that's just their game.

Keep looking, that dress will still be available if you don't find something else!

Sounds like a sales pitch... The consultant at the salon I ordered my dress from said that dresses do get discontinued but the designers usually give them about 2 months notice in the even of girls putting a hold on a dress because they're planning on losing weight, having a hollow-to-hem measurement, or saving money for the first payment.

I tried on dresses at David's and they told me the same thing! I was considering buying one of the dresses but wanted to look around some more first and the saleslady told me the exact same thing. I don't buy it. You should go to as many places and try on as many dresses as you need to until you feel sure that you have found the right one.

I used to work at David's, and it's partially true, actually, but still no real cause for concern.

Honestly, they can still get discontinued bridal dresses for a bit after the discontinuation is announced. It's a sales tactic, but David's DOES discontinue dresses fairly often, and with little to no warning. It's worse with BM dresses, because they'll just stop making them. I remember having to call one of my brides to get her and her BMs in THAT DAY for her BM dresses because they were being discontinued and if she wanted all of her dresses to be the same dye lot (which is another Valid concern), she had to get the order in.

Like I said originally, while it's somewhat true, I wouldn't lose sleep over it. I got my dress at David's and it was a nightmare. I'd recommend doing some extra looking.

I went looking at dresses last weekend at a small store near my home. I asked her about this bc Im not getting married until July 07 and I didnt want to get a dress too early, no less one that I tried on the first time I went to look. I did really like the dress. She put my name on file along with the dress # and said that if a dress is going to be discontinued, they will call the girls to let them know they have a limited amount of time to make a decision. She may be able to do this bc its a small store and David's Bridal is huge, but I at least got the impression that they know in advance if it is going to be discontinued.

Did you make sure to write down the designer and the model # of the dress? You could always buy it from another shop. I would continue looking just to satisfy your own curiosity.

It is true that they never know when something will be discontinued, but if they had wanted to be nice, they could've offered to let you know if they do hear something. That's what my shop did for me when we got married b/c my girlfriend and I went shopping way early on a lark just for fun and found 'the' dress like two years b4 the wedding. So they called me when they found out it was being discontinued months later and I ordered it. No big deal

I actually hate saying the 'discontinued' thing when I am talking to brides, and usually save it for brides who's weddings are a long way off. The problem is dresses DO get discontinued quite regularly, especially in the fall and spring when it's time for market. I know for example we are getting in 70 new dresses in the next month or so, and you can bet they will discontinue just as many, and we do not know which ones those are yet. Usually it's somewhat safe if you are looking at a 2005 style, but a dress may only last 3-6 months sometimes. Yes, it may sound like a sales pitch, but it's really not, I let brides know for informational purposes only, otherwise they come back, the dress is gone, and they are VERY upset I do think you should try other dresses on, you don't want to doubt a hasty decision, just try to do it in a timely manner, so that if you do decide you like the first dress the best, you can be pretty sure that it will still be available to you.

The same store told me that my bridesmaids dresses were going to be discontinued and that I needed to order them asap. Well 8 months later when my last bridesmaid ordered the dress, they were still in stock. So that should tell you something. I was so nervous that they werent going to have any more of them, and lowe and behold there they were. They told me that they just get a letter from the designer to pull the dresses but they never know when that letter will come, so I risk the chance of having half my bridal party with the same dress and the other half will have different ones. Well it turned out fine because they all were able to get the same dress so I dont know what they were talking about.

Re: is this a wedding dress 'lie'???

I ordered my BM dresses in July from Davids, then when one of them was shipped to my MOH and arrived in September it arrived with a defect on it. When we went to the store to fix the problem, we were told that particular skirt style had been discontinued so we had to get a diff. style skirt for her. So i guess things can get discontinued within a short amount of time.

Btw, this was also after the store told us that my MOH must've caused the defect herself (even though the dress still had tags on it and was in the original packing it came in). We also found out that they had shipped her a sample from the store that was dirty, not a new piece.
Don't get me started on Davids..
