I'm getting married at the hall at 12:30. I told my guests that it started at 12- since the hall will be providing coffee/tea and snacks to the guests while they wait. The girls on LI weddings told me most people change the time to a little earlier so people aren't late.
The Hall just told me they set that up a half hour before... so if people arrive earlier than 12pm, will they have anything for them?
I don't know if I should tell people the truth or it will just confuse them,

as long as the guest will have something like snacks for them i think it will be ok. I think they would get very antsy if they had to just stand there and wait.

When we were looking at halls, they told us to do the same thing, I don't think its bad. You know no matter what people will still be late. And even if they get there on time and see they have a half hour no one will complain, they are still getting seated and coffee and snacks. Its not like they are standing outside in the cold or heat.

Okay, that makes me feel better... I'm just worried some people will show up a half hour early (like 11:30) and have to hang out for a while!

At least if they show up at 11:30... they have first dibs on the coffee and snacks! And... they can take pictures.. enjoy the grounds a little.. socialize. No worries!

Unfortunately there are always those few people who are late no matter what so it's fine don't change it to the real time

Re: Is this bad?
My ceremony at the hall starts at 5:30 PM and my Invitations say 5:00PM - im sure if people get there a few mins earlier, the room should be set up with coffee/tea and snacks

Re: Is this bad?
i wrote 6:00pm on the invitation; the ceremony begins at 6:30 with refreshments being served beginning a half hour earlier. i'm sure some people will arrive at 5:30, but i feel like most ceremonies don't begin at the time listed on the invite, so they won't be surprised if they need to wait a bit.
before i began planning my own wedding, i always arrived a bit before the listed invite time and just assumed weddings i went to always ran late - now i know what was REALLY going on! :-P

Re: Is this bad?
I personally would hate that, i am a person that sees the time and gets there 10 minutes before that time so I can get a good seat. If you lie to me on the invite and im sitting there for an hour I would be pissed haha. Maybe you could tell people like me (anal about time) the actual time of the ceremony.

Same here!!!! So funny.
And yes, I wrote down 6 even though it's at 6:30.

Re: Is this bad?
I understand why you would do this, but i will not be doing it becuase I HATE going to a wedding and then they start late.
I am sure there will be that arrive at 11:30 for a '12' wedding, and then they will be sitting there for an hour, wondering why you are late......

I don't understand the point of listing your start time as half hour earlier. The majority of your guests know to arrive about 15 min. prior in order to be seated before the ceremony starts. I wouldn't change the start time to accomodate the few people who might be late. As a guest I might get a little antsy and annoyed arriving early (like I should) only to be waiting an extra half hour.
