Is this crazy to even THINK of doing? Fights at weddings.....

Original post by hbradio

I am TOYING with the idea of hiring my friends dad to come to the wedding and just be there. Hes a retired cop and can step in if anything happens.

I am looking at my guest list and I am thinking there might be some problems when alcohol gets into certain peoples systems.....or when certain people see certain other people.

Is this crazy? What do you think? Any experiences?

definitely hire someone!

I went to one of DH's cousin's weddings in Italy. The bride used to date a guy for 5 or so years, and she finally broke up with him because he was too much of a mama's boy. 2 years later, she was getting married, and he showed up at the church (after several failed attempts to get her to call off her wedding and be with him)

Luckily, he stood quietly in the back. But, most of the guests saw him, knew who he was, and were TERRIFIED that he would start something...

We're having security, sounds crazy till you meet FH's acquaintances.

I'm sure this happens. I can't imagine people getting into a fight and ruining the wedding
Thats something I thought about. Know you've got me thinking, my FH has a friend who gets very rude and loud when he drinks, I hope he doesn't cause any problems I also have a friend I excluded out of my bridal party for that reason, everytime I went out with her to have a few drinks she always ended up causing some sort of a scene I mean like cursing a being loud. I was very worried she was going to do something like this at my wedding if she was drinking, now I'm having second thoughts of even inviting her.

If it will give you peace of mind, then do it. The very last thing you want is trouble on your wedding day.

We had one guest that we asked someone to keep an eye on.

I remember my father telling my sister and I the craziest stories about fights at family weddings. At one my grandfather broke an arm and at more then one the cops were called. Fortunately buy the time I would have been invited to any family weddings, they were all too old to fight...

Cant you just sit them at opposite ends of the hall???

We had people that were exes of my BIL, of my GMen and of my BMaids, and everyone knew that it was our day and they were there to celebrate us.

If they are that immature can you just nix them?
